Publisher's Summary

This is Bryce Courtenay's moving tribute to his son, Damon, a hemophiliac who died from medically acquired AIDS on April 1, 1991, at the age of 24.

April Fool's Day is controversial, painful and heartbreaking, yet has a gentle humor. It is also life-affirming and, above all, a testimony to the incredible regenerative strength of love: how when we confront our worst, we can become our best. This tragic yet uplifting story will change the way you think. From the author of The Power of One.

Inspiring

Such a fantastic book, truly a beautiful love story. Very inspirational as well as tragic. A view of a terrible virus in the early days when so little was known about AIDS. its easy to share in the frustration this family dealt with when it comes to the medical community and being faced with constant challenges how the spirit can overcome. I am thankful for my health. The narrator did a phenomenal job bringing the characters to life.

Tragic, Honest and Poignant

When I realized what this book was about, I didn't think I would last to the end. Bryce wrote this book with such heart and honesty, not to mention genius of expression, that I suffered every moment of it with him, loving the characters and their courage and compassion and hating the injustice of it all. As usual, Humphrey Bower brought this book to life with a perfect reading.

Heartwrenching

I appreciate the vulnerability of Bryce's words in telling Damon's story and love Humphrey's voice.
