About this listen

A team of military contractors fights for its life in this high-adrenaline, full-cast drama from Mark Greaney, author of the Audible and New York Times best-selling Gray Man series.

Josh Duffy is staring into the abyss.

A decorated army veteran turned military contractor, his last mission went sideways, leaving him badly injured and his career derailed. Now, he’s working as a mall cop, trying to keep his family one step ahead of the bill collectors.

So when a chance at redemption - and a big pay day - comes his way, Duff eagerly jumps in.

The job - to ride shotgun on a motorcade of heavily armed and armored vehicles as they roll into Mexico’s cartel country. The mission - to find a notorious drug lord and bring him to the negotiating table with the Mexican government and the UN.

But Duff’s employer, Armored Saint, has a track record that’s sketchy, at best. And from the moment the motorcade hits the dusty roads, the danger only increases.

It's a suicide run - and for Duff, the violent forces of the cartels may not be the biggest threat.

NOTE: Armored contains scenes of violence and strong language and is intended for mature listeners.

Gripping

Love story narration that’s like listening to a movie that’s well done. Kept me engaged in the story, characters and action all the way through.

Pretty good book

Pretty good overall: Realistically it's 7/10 but still a enjoyable listen, towards the end it becomes less possible and uses some *interesting* methods to accomplish the narrative goal.

Good story, action plus and realistic

Very good point concerning how the underworld operates. Scary but true. Well worth the time.

solid acting. good engaging story

I was happy with the quality of production and acting, of course in this medium there are restraints the writers have to work with, but if you like military action films or books this is a good hybrid.

Better than expected

Love Greaney’s work. This is like a tv show without the visual. And i ended up sucked into the story. Great job.

Perfection

NOTE: THIS IS AN AUDIO DRAMA AND NOT AN AUDIOBOOK!!! MEANING IT’S LIKE A RADIO PLAY!!

Now with that having been explained, I loved this. Audio dramas are one of my favourite things and as a fan of Mark Greaney I was curious to see what kind of story he’d do for this medium. I was not disappointed at all. I thought the whole cast did an amazing job (shout out to Bookstagram/Booktok favourite, Laura Fortgang known for her roles in Leigh Bardugo books of all sorts) and I was truly sucked into everything.

Highly recommend for fans of Greaney’s other books as well as fans of things like Sicario or Tom Clancy.

Story Good but Narration meh

The story was good although it all felt a bit rushed. I would have enjoyed it more if it was one narrator and not the “full cast” narration with sound effects. I found that made the boom particularly hard to get into and to enjoy.

Overall decent

It was decent overall, okay performances, decent story, however I think the writing was lacking. Often having characters over explain super simple things, even during a literal battle where there is no time for that. I was a little disappointed in the end but it wasn’t terrible.
