About this listen

A certain college girl who's loved books ever since she was a little girl dies in an accident and is reborn in another world she knows nothing about. She is now Myne, the sickly five-year-old daughter of a poor soldier. To make things worse, the world she's been reborn in has a very low literacy rate and books mostly don't exist. She'd have to pay an enormous amount of money to buy one.

Wonderful performance for the understated start of my favourite series

I'll admit that I am biased when rating this story, as my opinions are affected by the long series of sequels (where this book is probably the weakest entry in my opinion)... However it is still a charming and engaging story that I love in it's own right.

The narrator manages to capture Myne's mannerisms in a wonderful way, as well as the rest of the character's (Effa and Gunter's voices fit particularly well, in my opinion.) The audiobook captures the sense of time passing much better than the light novels, which can be read very quickly, or the anime, which is heavily abridged. It made me more sympathetic to Myne's struggles and frustrations without overstaying it's welcome.

The only real flaw, in my opinion, is that the original light novels sometimes keep visual descriptions, since the illustrations communicate visuals much more efficiently than words. I'd recommend looking up the illustrations for the volume if you want to follow along more easily. (If/when I relisten to this, I may add timestamps for illustrations to my review)

So Happy

I absolutely love this series and am superbly ecstatic that it is now having English audiobooks produced! I can’t wait to buy them all!

The performance was good, but book 1:1 has the smallest cast of characters in the whole series so I am hoping that the narrator will be able to keep up. Or perhaps the studio will have a male narrator join in at some point.

this book series is great.

the narrator did a fantastic job. the story isn't a typical epic adventure but more of a slow struggle to achieve greatness. I really can feel the passion and frustration of the mc

Amazing voice acting

amazing voice acting it really brings all the characters to life. I watched the anime and read the manga and this includes many missing things.
