Publisher's Summary

As a boy, Raun Kaufman was diagnosed by multiple experts as severely autistic, with an IQ below 30, and destined to spend his life in an institution. Years later, Raun graduated with a degree in biomedical ethics from Brown University and has become a passionate and articulate autism expert and educator with no trace of his former condition. Thanks to the Son-Rise Program, a revolutionary method created by his parents, Raun experienced a full recovery from autism. In Autism Breakthrough, Raun presents the ground-breaking principles behind the program that helped him and thousands of other families with special children. Parents and educators learn how to enable their children to create meaningful, caring relationships, vastly expand their communications, and to participate successfully in the world.

I wish I learned this years ago.

I listen to the book almost every day and whenever I have time. It takes repeated reminding to push myself to apply this in my every day interactions. I love the ideas. My son had the breakthrough from their method. He had been non verbal. But started to respond to my prompting last year and is now happier and way more verbal. I once thought he would never be talking to people (though he could read). I am so happy and thankful for this and wish more people could follow this method that truly respects kids with autism as individuals.

Fantastical

This book is a resource for therapists and parents. Like other reviewers have mentioned, this book confusing in a few areas. ie. You have a protagonist that communicated to his mother at a young age, (ex. he was afraid the toilet would over flow), who is now "cured" from autism. I would have liked to have read about some of his failed attempts with ASD clients. I'm assuming like any good program, there are hits and misses. We can learn from all of it, I hope to hear more about this program.

I couldn't tell if felt like an infomercial, or a course with resources. Maybe a bit of both. I think I will follow up on the links. I'm sure there is a wealth of knowledge and the Sonrise program sounds beneficial.
