Donald Trump has just completed the first three weeks of his presidency – and is now more popular than ever. In a whirlwind, Trump has taken dramatic and sometimes drastic action to reverse the effects of the last four years, especially what I’d call its leadership deficit.
A new poll from CBS News found a majority approves of the job Trump is doing for the first time in either of his terms. As their analyst put it, that is because “he’s doing … what he said he would do in the campaign.” It also comes from the popularity of Trump’s agenda to secure the borders, deport criminal aliens, and ending the governmental obsession with race-based preferences in public policy.
But that’s not the entire story. The CBS analyst also credited a “general sense of governance” as the reason for Trump’s popular support. The implication here is clear: Americans were fed up by four years of governance by a cabal of Democrat operatives while fronting a clearly incompetent Joe Biden.
Leadership matters. Donald Trump is delivering it while Democrats can do little but weep.
