About this listen
Peace has reigned across the galaxy for over two centuries, and no one can believe that such an accomplishment is nearing an end. However, as dreadnoughts muster in the capital of the Earth Empire and threaten her home nation of the Coalition, Sophia Trotsky finds herself at the dawn of war. Armed with the belief that she can make a difference, the young naval intelligence officer finds herself a front-line combatant—where history cannot be made by one person alone.
When the bombs and shells drag minutes into hours, what is truly important becomes the only source of light beneath the shadow of war.

A strong, female-led cast
K. MacCabe has penned an epic novel that covers a futuristic war. The main character, Sophia Trotsky is a genetically modified human with a high intelligence. As she is drawn into war, she slowly begins to realize her true feelings for “Jow” a female, lizard-like species with red eyes and sharp teeth. As the war mounts, Sophia gradually learns what is most important to her.
I listened to the audio book version and found the narrator, Caroline Turner Cole interesting. Her expression was well done and believable.
The book cover is well done, and the writing is well thought out and rich with diverse characters and interesting creatures. I enjoyed the other-worldly, futuristic elements of the book. I would recommend this book to readers of futuristic sci-fi who enjoy a bit of romance as well. My interest in the story fluctuated up and down, but the quality was high enough for me to hold on until the end.
