Earned its Pulitzer

The best one-volume history of the civil war era, gives background and consequences rather than just military history. Well read, occasional place name mispronunciation (KY-row for KAY-row) can be forgiven. How balloon housing construction emerged from the stonemasons all being at war shows the war is still with us.

Good book, not super well read

I don't know why, but in places this is read very robotically - like someone who stumbles over the grammar of an unfamiliar sentence and stresses the wrong words. Why were these takes kept in? Along with the butchery of some French words? The book is definitely worthwhile, but the performance is not up to the level I expect, much less the standard of the best narrators.
