Beauty and the Beast is one of the world's most famous fairy tales. This is the very first published version of the fairy tale, by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, published in 1740. Variations of the tale are known across Europe. It has been enormously popular for centuries. In 1991 the story was made into a Disney animated musical fantasy.

Abridged

The narration is great! There are a few recordings of Villeneuve's version on audible, but they all end at the Beast's transformation, which occurs midway through the tale. The recordings should be tagged as abridged versions.
