About this listen
Best-selling authors David and Leigh Eddings welcome fans back to the time before The Belgariad and The Malloreon series. Join them as they chronicle that fateful conflict between two mortally opposed Destinies, in a monumental war of men and kings and gods.
When the world was young and Gods still walked among their mortal children, a headstrong orphan boy set out to explore the world. Thus began the extraordinary adventures that would mold that youthful vagabond into a man and the man into the finely honed instrument of Prophecy known to all the world as Belgarath the Sorcerer.
Then came the dark day when the Dark God Torak split the world asunder, and the God Aldur and his disciples began their monumental labor to set Destiny aright. Foremost among their number was Belgarath. His ceaseless devotion was foredoomed to cost him that which he held most dear - even as his loyal service would extend through echoing centuries of loss, of struggle, and of ultimate triumph.

It would be sheer folly to try to conceal the true nature of Althalus, for his flaws are the stuff of legend. He is, as all men know, a thief, a liar, an occasional murderer, an outrageous braggart, and a man devoid of even the slightest hint of honor. Yet of all the men in the world, it is Althalus, unrepentant rogue and scoundrel, who will become the champion of humanity in its desperate struggle against the forces of an ancient god determined to return the universe to nothingness.

An excellent job, Belgarath.
Narration was good. Some themes in the story become repetitive but still good. Well done.

LOVED IT FOR THE 3RD TIME
Again, I found the story engrossing. I loved the series, and when I found out about Belegrath the Socerer, I couldn't wait to read it. I read the book version twice. When I got the audible book, I couldn't wait to listen to it. I wasn't disappointed. If you loved the series as I did, you have to listen to this. Without it, and Polgara the Sorceress, you don't have the whole story.
The Narrator was fantastic. To me, he sounded like I believed Belgarath to be. He also did a great job with all the other voices.
Once a few years have past, I will likely listen to it again.

Wonderful. Fills in all those years!
If you love the Belgariad series and the Mallorean series, you’ll love this book. Cameron Beierle does a very good job of narrating this book as he did all the other ones.
This book fills in all those years prior to Belgarions appearance and answers all those questions we had about how it all began and what happened.
There is also another book available that fills in the gaps from Polgara’s point of view.
I highly recommend this book as well as Polgara.

Poor Audio Quality
I quite enjoyed this series as a teen back when the books were written. While Audible have great quality versions of the audio books for most of the series the audio quality of this one is really bad it sounds like an tinny old AM radio. Too much compression or something. Very hard to listen to this after listening to the rest of the books in much cleaner and crisper quality.

Like a cup of hot chocolate next to a warm fire
25ish years ago, the Belgariad and Malloreon were hands down my first and forever one of my favorite fantasy stories.
I hadn't ever read the two newer companion books, and having just now consumed this story for the first time, the nostalgia of Belgarath the Sorcerer, while still being a completely new book to me, is simply heart warming. Listening to Cameron Beierle recap the life of the Old Wolf was maybe my highpoint of the otherwise disastrous 2020.
However, having just listened to the first 10 books back to back (for about the half dozenth time in my life), in full, clear and pure audio... and then having to sit through this compressed mess, was really hard. Audible needs to contract books in motion and get a clearer version of this audio book PLEASE.
The audio quality is the reason for my 3/5 star overall review. It was originally much lower, but then I started to listen to Polgara the Sorceress - and suddenly, this wasn't so bad. My goodness what a difference a little perspective makes.
