About this listen

From best-selling indie author and TikTok favorite Laura Thalassa comes a witch fantasy set in the world of the Bargainer series.

At age 20, Selene Bowers desperately hopes to be accepted into Henbane Coven, an academy for young witches. Since one of the requirements for entry is to connect with her powers via a quest through the wilderness, Selene books a trip to South America. When a nefarious supernatural force tries to drag her plane from the sky, Selene's magic awakens to save her life—at a cost. Using her powers devours her memories, one by one.

Worse, when Selene braves the jungle and discovers the source of the attack, she finds herself awakening an ancient evil, Memnon the Cursed, who mistakes Selene for his long-dead wife. The wife who betrayed him. Selene manages to escape and begin her studies at Henbane, but when Memnon turns up at the coven and witches are found dead across campus, Selene becomes entangled in a dangerous plot. Accused of the murders on the basis of her memory loss, Selene must rely on Memnon's help for answers and his plans for her will change everything.

You got me, I’ll be back for the second one

Great hook at the beginning, love the heat between the MC’s. The premise of the book is interesting, but the pacing was sometimes a bit slow. I also wish Memnon was more terrifying, he came off more as a love sick puppy than undefeated warlord. Loved the unreliable narrator in the FMC. Narrator was engaging.

Amazing

Everything about this book was amazing. Nothing bad to say about it. I wish I could forget about it and listen to it again haha. Can't wait for the second audio book.

Witch meets God

I will definitely be reading the other books in this series as it leaves a lot unanswered. I enjoyed the fast pace and strong MC but didn't love the characters. overall enjoyable.

Almost good

Loved the main female character, but the main male character often left me feeling icky & quite annoyed. I actually had to stop the book for periods of time before I could keep going. I had a really hard time getting into a pushy, overbearing, cocky, arrogant, manipulative "2000 year old mummy essentially revived from the dead" having a sexual relationship with barely-an-adult female who has no knowledge of him...a lot of the things he did felt like grooming and seemed straight up wrong to me. But because he's pushy he gets his way. He insists she's in denial for most of the book, but sounds like he's the one with the issues...at least date the girl first!
Narrator was good & engaging when reading for Celine, but the voice when reading as Memnon did not help to make him feel less greasy...
