Story
The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Story
Deadly storms have ravaged Mina’s homeland for generations. Floods sweep away entire villages, while bloody wars are waged over the few remaining resources. Her people believe the Sea God, once their protector, now curses them with death and despair. In an attempt to appease him, each year a beautiful maiden is thrown into the sea to serve as the Sea God’s bride, in the hopes that one day the “true bride” will be chosen and end the suffering.

Orphaned. Trained to fight. Raised to fear the power of Underhill. Secretly in love with a man who doesn’t want me. I’m still just Alli, a.k.a. the half-human orphan fae, but my life is looking up for the first time. It only took me my whole 24 years. But when Underhill - the ancestral home of the fae - shatters, making it impossible for any fae to enter, I’m the only one who knows who did it. A secret that will be the death of me if I do nothing.

Incredible retelling of classic fairytales!
the performance was excellent and though the stories had predictable endings, they were incredibly well thought out and delved deeper than I could imagine into classic fairy tales.

Beautiful and exciting
man do I wish things like this existed in real life 🥰. Each book was exhilarating and unique even though they have a completely different direction from the originals. they even teach you things that most of this century's generations don't seem to be able to understand and follow. I'll definitely be listening to these over and over 😍😍

Enjoyable listen
I was looking for something to listen to before sleeping and this set of tales was perfect. I have been a life-long lover of fairytales and it was interesting to hear some re-imagined or with more depth in the backstory. I really noticed in the last tale that the princess narrator verbalized her 'lessons' (i.e. 'I acted without thinking and there were consequences for both me and others. This time I will think first.'). It made me think that these would be positive tales for younger people as well. Not preachy, but could definitely see a thought-progression.
The only thing I didn't like was the verbalization of the male voices by the female narrator. Made me want to clear my throat. Must be difficult to come up with all of the different voices though.

My favourite in all the Four Kingdom Series
Fantastic fairytale retelling stories - specifically the first 2 stories in this collection (the ones about Princess Lily & Princess Sophie). I have completed both Four Kingdom Collection Series and both Beyond Four Kingdom Series and this one is the standout. It's the one I could see myself listening to again.
