About this listen

One angry young man is about to take a fantasy realm by storm—or by accident—in the hilarious first book of a new series by the author of Good Boy.

Gabe Skelter has a temper, which he likes to imagine has the effect of causing people to fear and respect him. On the contrary, his pudgy, underdeveloped body and negative personality make him more your standard outcast teenager. Worse still, he kinda knows what a jerkweed he actually is.

Then, in the middle of a class trip, Gabe finds himself spirited away to Regaia: a world of magic, mayhem, and nerd-tastic adventure. Naturally, he’s completely ill-prepared. But in this realm, he’s a monstrous, muscular man of action. Unfortunately, he’s still saddled with the frightfully unimpressive brains of a teenage loser.

Now, Gabe must make his burly, bulky way in a land where the strong dominate, the powerful rule, and picking a class has nothing to do with algebra . . . and everything to do with survival.

Bristling with reckless abandon and antisocial attitude, Big Sneaky Barbarian is Die Hard with dungeons; a must-hear for fans of heavy-hitting action mixed with laugh-out-loud snark—and absolutely loaded with swears.

The first volume of the hit LitRPG adventure series—with almost 100,000 views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

What the critics say

“This has gotten me very excited at the chance to be one of those authors quoted on a book.”—Shirtaloon, author of the He Who Fights with Monsters series and brazen Australian

“I loved every one of the words in this book! Especially how they followed one another in perfect sequence, each of them dazzling me with their sublime poise, vigor, and panache. Or at least that’s what I think I’d say if I read the thing. Are we done here now? Wait, don’t write that. Stop, what are you doing, don’t hit send . . .”—Luke Chmilenko, author of the Ascend Online series and collector of “antique” eggs

Good story, annoying main character

Aside from the main character in the first half being a bit much with his continually rage shouting it's really good. By the end of the book the mc seems to settle down a little bit and be more decent, although still a shitbag but at least now he knows he's a shitbag.

What a performance from Jonathan!

Excellent characters and Johnathan does a amazing job narrating them, the senerios are fun and the narrator makes them even better. The story itself is interesting enough. Put all that together and it's a Must Read, Enjoy!

Hilarious story

This is for the people who love stupid funny kind of like Will Ferrel in anchorman funny ( my favourite movie) this story made me laugh so much. This narrator knows how to deliver! The comedic timing is great and he has the perfect voice for this book. A credit well spent!

New favourite

This book is one of my new favourites and I can't wait for the second. it's protagonist is not your usual suspect, and if you don't like gritty comedy and don't have much of a silly side, this book is not for you. don't take the main character too seriously and you'll have a good time with this book. The narrator did a fantastic job with this book and he has also become one of my new favourites.

surprisingly deep and hilarious

I decided to leave this reviews months after listening, because I needed to compare to the rest of the genre.

the MC is an asshat on purpose, and the writer and narrator did an amazing job of making him that way. as the story progresses it starts revealing why, and maybe they it was revealed a little too late for some readers. but then it all clicks.

this book is a breath of fresh air for the genre. it's also hilarious, it's as if a comedian wrote all the jokes as they're so good. here's a small quote "he's trying to butter me up, but I'm like a feral alley cat, notoriously hard to butter " ... if that kind of humor gets you, you're in for a ride.

Amazing voice acting

I bought this book quickly on a whim because i had expiring audible credits and I've listened to this voice actor in other audio books. An amazing voice talent and the story was quite good. Can't wait to get on to book 2!

Fantastic delivery both in writing and performance

I truly enjoyed having a hilarious main character that realistically doesnt do too well unless by accident while learning to adapt. There are a few times in the series where the always confrontational nature of the character is a little much, but since this is clearly a comedy and not a drama where characters have to evolve every scene its still perfectly great. The best scenes are when this overconfident bravado is useful to the MC and his team. Also the fights are some of the funniest and due yo the great performances by the narrator they are extremely easy to visualize bringing the same energy as the bird fight from family guy.
