Publisher's Summary

A rogue Russian nuke sails toward the harbors of Los Angeles in the hull of a ramshackle sailboat. Without destroying a single building, the bomb shatters the latticework of the American dream, toppling one piece of the economy after another. A group of Special Forces veterans and their prepper friends scramble for survival in a worldwide catastrophe so psychologically disruptive they are left questioning everything they ever believed to be true.

Black Autumn

Couldn’t stop listening to the story! I’m not a prepper but now see the concept from a different perspective entirely. Being prepared isn’t a bad idea and plan to start thanks to this book.

Black autumn

The story was great but it was a bit stilled in the delivery. This maybe the reason it’s best to use professionals to read the books.

great story!

after listen to the audio clip before getting the book I wasn't sold... but tried it anyway, and I was wrong! the story and narration was bang on, you definitely felt involved in the story.
started book 2 today (conquistadors) and it's also been a great story so far, already looking forward to book 3.

Painful to get through

The story was ok, the narrator made it painful to listen to. He reminded me of a new radio dj.

Neat concept

I appreciated the story behind it and although a little corny when they were advertising other veteran managed companies, I still love all of those companies. this narrative gives an interesting insight into my previous survival plans and how they would probably fail.

Might have to do some further research now. Overall a decent novel and I'd purchase the next book in the saga.

the reality of the situation given current times

I love how the story wasn't far fetched, immediately attention grasping, hard too stop listening

Completely plausible

Eerily accurate considering the recent drone strikes in Saudi. There were a few minor glitches in the audio. The single downfall I would say, is that it sounds like it’s being read by Hank Hill, which detracts from the seriousness of the message.

Very realistic, excellent characters, good narrato

A few people are complaining about the narrator. I thought he did very well, and actually improved after the first few chapters as the story unfolded.

I am really enjoying the story and characters. The authors did a great job predicting how a black swan event will unfold, and obviously have a lot of experience and research under their belts.

It opened my eyes to how unprepared my family is, and how fragile the system we live in is.

With arrogant politicians provoking nuclear powers, this book is extremely relevant and important, to inspire people to prepare.

Has anti-Obama content and dogwhistles "Chicago"

If a writer has taken some of my money and time for a post-apocalyptic book and then says illogical things about Obama and the Iran nuclear treaty and says the timeworn fox news dog-whistle about Chicago already being post-apocalyptic, then I get to mention that in my review. It also turns out that one of the writers is an ex-police chief. This is a very white-centric book that a lot of people will find unpleasant to listen to. Any country that develops a nuclear weapon announces it as soon as possible to make other countries afraid to attack them. This book has Iran using a nuclear weapon and has people say "I guess Obama was wrong about Iran" which shows that the authors don't really understand how world politics works.
