About this listen

Five full novels of pure adventure, magic, and romance!

A young woman with a secret heritage. A man who made a deal with the devil. And an academy where the students are just as dangerous as the demons...

Erin

I've been kept from the truth all my life. Demons walk the earth, and I'm destined to slay them - I only wish I hadn't lost someone I loved while discovering that truth. Now the demons are after me. The only way to stay alive is to attend an academy for demon hunters - a school where I'll learn how to kill supernaturals and slay the underworld's minions. But I still feel there are secrets I'm not being told

Rey

I sold my soul to save my family - and lost everything because of it. Now I'm a slave to the underworld: a fake hunter with half-demon blood. I've been sent on a special assassination mission. If I fail, it means my life. But protecting Erin soon becomes more important than any other task, and there's something about her that tells me her arrival at the academy will change everything...

An upper young adult paranormal romance series set in the universe of the Rite World, this is a dark fantasy you won't want to miss! Forge your weapons and cast spells in a school where demons are hunted and the hunters themselves become prey.

Uninspired and boring

The plot is basic. After a few mildly interesting minor reveals of the first book, there is nothing in the story that captivates. None of the characters get developed enough for you to care about them, not even the two main ones.
Spoilers ahead, so if you plan to listen, don't continue reading my review.
Rey is supposedly a 1000 year old half-demon, but he acts like a teenager, knows less than any 40 y.o. Professor and gets bullied by anyone with "authority". This is cringe-inducing.
Randall, the all-knowing, all-powerful wizard(ish) demon-hunter has no back story, no bases for his actions. What was he trying to accomplish with the black Knight army? Ridiculous. And he gets outplayed by Rey and Crimson? How did that happen if Randall is the only one who showed any strategic sense at all. Even though his goals were unclear, he was wiser and stronger than them.
Erin is probably the only character that made sense, but the adventure she sets out on fails to impress at every turn. But what else can you expect if the main villain, king of the underworld, is described only as the "big bad" that needs to be stopped. They didn't try to destroy the underworld, mind you, simply wanted to replace the king... So the demons weren't the problem, the King was. But why? No explanation.

Voice actors did a good job, no complaints there.
