About this listen
Paul Gallo saw the report on the news: a mass murderer leading police to his victims' graves in remote Dread's Hand, Alaska.
It's not even a town; more like the bad memory of a town. The same bit of wilderness where his twin brother went missing a year ago. As the bodies are exhumed, Paul travels to Alaska to get closure and put his grief to rest.
But the mystery is only beginning. What Paul finds are superstitious locals who talk of the devil stealing souls, and a line of wooden crosses to keep what's in the woods from coming out. He finds no closure because no one can explain exactly what happened to Danny.
And the more he searches for answers, the more he finds himself becoming part of the mystery...

I enjoyed the suspense
This was a cool read- I kinda wished it had been longer. I would have loved more fleshing out of the background stories. I really enjoyed it!

The GRIP this book had on me
I loved this book so much. It has all the ingredients: spooky setting of small town in Alaska, nature and bad weather, compelling characters, and a slightly supernatural / mystery twist. Enjoy this author and this book.

ok
I'm re-listening to the books in my Audible library at work to help the shifts go by faster. I'm down to the ones I remember not being the wildest about.
This? It was ok. Some of Malfi's works I really enjoy, and some, like this one, are a slog.
It was genuinely unnerving, but that was solely due to the claustrophobic setting. There wasn't much to the mystery, or the characters, and even the killings lacked, I don't know, emotional resonance? Depth?
I do appreciate the somewhat happy ending, but overall, this one wasn't for me.

Worth the time
Nothing earth shattering but a good book. And few twists and turns. Just discovered Malfi and this is my 2nd book. Give him a listen. He may surprise

Get to the point already!
I think Ronald Malfi should consider exiting the horror genre and move to the dramatic. His profuse descriptions of everything but the crux of the story overwhelm any anticipated impact. He is a good writer but, as I mentioned, I believe he has dedicated his talent to the wrong genre. Horror fans want horror... not description upon description upon description of everything but the horror element of the story. So, as a dedicated horror fan, Ronald Malfi is not for me. On the other hand, Charles Constant did an excellent job with his narration.

Very slow story
This story had potential to be amazing however the author let the book be bland.
