Publisher's Summary
The 20th anniversary edition of the definitive classic on defeating obsessive-compulsive behavior, with all-new material from the author.
An estimated five million Americans suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and live diminished lives in which they are compelled to obsess about something or to repeat a similar task over and over. Traditionally OCD has been treated with Prozac or similar drugs. The problem with medication, aside from its cost, is that 30 percent of people treated don't respond to it, and when the pills stop, the symptoms invariably return.
In Brain Lock, Jeffrey M. Schwartz, MD, presents a simple four-step method for overcoming OCD that is so effective, it's now used in academic treatment centers throughout the world. Proven by brain-imaging tests to actually alter the brain's chemistry, this method doesn't rely on psychopharmaceuticals. Instead patients use cognitive self-therapy and behavior modification to develop new patterns of response to their obsessions. In essence they use the mind to fix the brain.
Using the real-life stories of actual patients, Brain Lock explains this revolutionary method and provides listeners with the inspiration and tools to free themselves from their psychic prisons and regain control of their lives.

A deep dive into my brain
This book was something I needed to read. Not only does it tell you how you can fix your BrainLock, it helps you along the process and gives you stories of success and triumph to inspire you along the way. It was also a great dive into how my brain works and how my OCD causes my brain to refuse to move on from certain thoughts, like a bad gear shift. Overall great book, and it is helping me throughout my journey coping and recovering from OCD.

Incredible Resource for OCD & ADHD
Whether you have been recently diagnosed or have a friend or family member with this condition I highly recommend this book. Obsessive compulsive disorder has many different variations and it is comforting to know so many out there are managing the same obsessive and compulsive triggers. The four step program is easy to use and follow. It is critical during times of extreme stress to help you get back on track to living a normal life. This book is also a valuable resource for anyone who is a spouse to someone diagnosed.
