Publisher's Summary

The best-selling author of Grain Brain uncovers the powerful role of gut bacteria in determining your brain's destiny.

Debilitating brain disorders are on the rise - from children diagnosed with autism and ADHD to adults developing dementia at younger ages than ever before. But a medical revolution is underway that can solve this problem: Astonishing new research is revealing that the health of your brain is, to an extraordinary degree, dictated by the state of your microbiome - the vast population of organisms that live in your body and outnumber your own cells 10 to one. What's taking place in your intestines today is determining your risk for any number of brain-related conditions.

In Brain Maker, Dr. Perlmutter explains the potent interplay between intestinal microbes and the brain, describing how the microbiome develops from birth and evolves based on lifestyle choices, how it can become "sick", and how nurturing gut health through a few easy strategies can alter your brain's destiny for the better. With simple dietary recommendations and a highly practical program of six steps to improving gut ecology, Brain Maker opens the door to unprecedented brain health potential.

AWESOME INFORMATION

I passed this book probably 100x in the bookstores thinking, "just another one of the same I have on my bookshelves"... but it's not. I decided to listen to this book at the recommendation of an author on a similar theme. I ♡ it... Will be implementing its information on probiotic enemas (exciting, promising info) as well as gut flora diet. I usually screen books of interest through audio (multitasking) and if worthy, purchase the book for detailed reference and review (no Kindle yet). Definitely buying this one.

Should have been a pamphlet

Information presented by author is far reaching in the relm of science. Good for general understanding of the gut microbiome, however there are many grandiose claims regarding healing power of the gut that are not supported by the scientific community. The author cherry picks vague studies and anticdotal evidence to support his misguided claims as hard fact. Very fascinating subject but i believe we are in the early stages of understanding the gut-brain connecection

Decent listen to have a general understanding of of the gut microbiome along with proper steps and nutritional information for a healthy gut. However this information could have been condensed into a pamphlet.

Enjoyed the narrator. Great job of being a narrator. Author did not do a great job of being a scientist
