About this listen
Persecuted refugees from six separate alien races have migrated to the idyllic planet Jijo. And despite their incredible diversity, the inhabitants live together in blissful harmony. However, settlement on Jijo is illegal - and it's only a matter of time before the residents of this forbidden paradise are discovered by the galactic powers-that-be.

As vivid in detail as it is in characters!
If you enjoy world building on a personal level, and find value in slowly getting to know the story’s main characters as you would any person, (and love space and aliens,) then THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU! The majority of narration comes FROM the varying voices we follow in Brightness Reef. This allows David Brin the room to insert us into the mind and worldview of many characters, and gives nothing away that those characters themselves are not discovering on their own.
You don’t read this book, you follow along inside it.
Really great listen!

Vivid Narration and a Fascinating Story
The narrator does an impressive job of bringing aliens to life, each with their own distinct voices. I look forward to hearing more books performed by George Wilson. Brin has created a fascinating story of 6 different races, living together for generations, in secret from the rest of the galaxy. This creates a complex yet harmonious society which is put under pressure with the arrival of strangers. I found it a fairly complex story and, if I was not paying close attention, I felt a little lost. I continued to enjoy it, nonetheless. It is also an open-ended story which means I will be going on directly into the next book.

Beautiful book, beautifully read
Having read this book twice before (the last time being 15 or so years ago) I decided to make it my first dip into an audio novel.
David Brin's beautifully written tale relies on both his own expertise in conveying scenes and characters born entirely of his own mind, and the reader's trust to surrender their imaginations.
The articulate, warm and varied tamber of George Wilson's performance was an absolute joy, and I shall purchase the sequel, Infinity's Shore, as soon as this review is submitted.
Later Sooners!
