Publisher's Summary

Fifty years after the events of Altered Carbon, Takeshi Kovacs is serving as a mercenary in the Procterate-sponsored war to put down Joshuah Kemp's revolution on the planet Sanction IV. He is offered the chance to join a covert team chasing a prize whose value is limitless - and whose dangers are endless.

Here is a novel that takes mankind to the brink.A breakneck-paced crime thriller, Altered Carbon took its readers deep into the universe Morgan had so compellingly realised without ever letting them escape the onward rush of the plot. Broken Angels melds SF, the war novel and the spy thriller to take the reader below the surface of this future and lay bare the treacheries, betrayals and follies that leave man so ill-prepared for the legacy he has been given: the stars.

This is SF at its dizzying best: superb, yet subtle, world-building; strong yet sensitive characterisation; awesome yet believable technology, thilling yet profound writing. Richard Morgan is set to join the genre's world-wide elite.

Its ok, maybe not as good as the first

Its ok, maybe not as good as the first, either that or I am remembering the first book more fondly. This one seems to have a lot of abstract thinking that isn't particularly interesting and also doesn't really do much for the plot either, feels like a bit of filler, and the charecter development (esp. secondary charecters but even the main) is pretty flat in this book and the Envoy past/referencing seems very flat and stale and used often. The book does pick up a bit in the last section though.

Also in case you watched the TV series, the series has apparently close to nothing at all to do with the actual books except being the same universe and a few shared elements like the names and technologies (and even then barely) - as usual the book is considerably more interesting than the series.

sure did make some choices there, bud

The middle of the book still felt like set up somehow and meanwhile Kovacs has feelings maybe for someone who's just like "YEAH LET'S GET IT ON" and hey Richard? what was up with the cartoonish bubble butt sex romp sequence?

Male and Female voices

Audible should be hiring a man and a woman for every audio book. It’s very silly and distracting constantly hearing a man trying to sound like a woman.

Great Sequel

I loved the book. Takeshi Kovacs is a great Antihero. The only part I disliked about this book was a few parts in the story where the author got off track. The narrator is one of the best.

We are specks in the Universe

Another terrific book by Richard Morgan.Since Alter Carbon gave us the sandbox for this future, this book was able to explore the idea of the Alien technology, first seen on Mars, and corporate corruption. Morality is not front and centre in this book, but moral or immoral choices are made by the characters. Takeshi Kovacs is still getting into tough situations, but he is still the guy I want on my team. This book has a good story arch, but there is still more that needs to be revealed about who the Aliens were and what happened to them. Todd McLaren is terrific again. #Audible1
