A Fun Story
I enjoyed the depth of world building about the Iron Snakes. May not have been ground breaking material but it was inspiring to do the same for my own Chapter of Space Marines to give more depth in game.

Dear Dan, Please make a sequel.
This book was amazing. I rarely look at the time left of an audiobook hoping I would be pleasantly surprised with more time. Great story with wonderful character development. Loved how it showed the culture of the Iron Snakes. I will have to keep returning to this audiobook until a sequel comes out ;)

On the fence about performance
Abnett's take on Space Marines. Good book, some amazing action scenes, but the narration is not my favourite. For example the first time Priad appears, the author describes his booming voice... but the narrator for some odd reason chose to give him high register.

A bit dated, but worth a listen
Overall a good story. Some of the lore and phrasing are a bit dated, but the book is over 10 years old, so it's fitting. An interesting story about a chapter that we don't hear very much about. My only "complaint" is that some of the human characters were a bit wonky, but I definitely recommend this title overall.

Fantastic start into the 40K universe
This was my first take into the 40K universe and I loved it. The story does very well to introduce the characters and lore without it becoming overwhelming and the characters are likeable and the settings vast. the pace of it sometimes doesn't know what it wants. Sometimes its breakneck action that leaves you wanting more but the next chapter slows down and gives you a recap of what happened after. Other than that it was a fantastic listen that has gotten me hooked and wanting more.

Good but not ground breaking
Another great book of essentially short stories overviewing a fun chapter. That said, it’s lacks the deep titular characters I’ve come to expect of Dan Abnett’s best works, and you really feel that lack of an Eisenhorn, Gaunt, Bequin, etc. I fully recommend it if you’re a lore junkie, but if you’re looking for a single cohesive story with robust character growth, this is not it.

The same as every 40K novel
Completely generic and forgettable characters. Their names are a complete blur of insignificance. Just once it would be nice for a Space Marine to stand out from the crowd of carbon copies. It also would have been a refreshing story if they had failed for a change. A draw would even be a departure from the standard 40K formula.
