About this listen
Rockliffe Series recommended in The Times.
The performance finished in a flourish of technical brilliance and the young man rose from the harpsichord to a storm of applause.
Julian Langham was poised on the brink of a dazzling career when the lawyers lured him into making a catastrophic mistake. Now, instead of the concert platform, he has a title he doesn’t want, an estate verging on bankruptcy...and bewildering responsibilities for which he is totally unfitted.
And yet the wreckage of Julian’s life is not a completely ill wind. For Tom, Rob, and Ellie it brings something that is almost a miracle...if they dare believe in it.
Meanwhile, first-cousins Arabella Brandon and Elizabeth Marsden embark on a daring escapade which will provide each of them with a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The adventure will last only a few weeks, after which everything will be the way it was before. Or so they think. What neither of them expects is for it to change a number of lives...most notably, their own.
And there is an additional complication of which they are wholly unaware.
The famed omniscience of the Duke of Rockliffe.

A good one!
I listened to this audiobook and was once again impressed with the narrator, Alex Wyndham. He really is amazing and his voice for Rockcliffe is perfect.
The story itself is pretty good, actually, better than the previous two books. I wasn't sure what to make of two new characters that had never been mentioned before but it starts to tie into the other books slowly after a few chapters. I love that Stella Riley wrote this series with a cast of characters in mind and includes them all in each of them. It makes them feel real and familiar and I look forward to seeing what happens to them all.
I was surprised that Rafe Sherbourne was one of the main male leads in this book as, if you've read the previous one, he is pretty awful in it. But if there's one thing Riley loves it's a rake reformed. I was actually disappointed in the ending because it didn't have much of him and Elizabeth at all.
But that being said, I did love the story of Arabella and Julian. The musical dimension was fascinating and it made me want to play the harpsichord and go to concerts.
There's still lots of sensuous thinking and sighing and dreaming and breathing - a bit much for me - I rolled my eyes often and the last scene is a skippable bedroom one, as usual.
Overall, I loved this series because they were good books, but could have done with less steamy scenes. But the crowning glory is the narrator, because I listened to them all and don't think I would have enjoyed them as much without Wyndham's dreamy voice.
I'm looking forward to the final novella and hope that Riley will write more, using Alex Wyndham's talent at narrating.

One of the best in the series
I love this one. The Rockliffe series are wonderful, and I thought it was over after Hazard. I'm so pleased to have met Arabella and Elizabeth!!
