About this listen
Joining us at Audible is Camilla Thurlow, bomb disposal expert turned reality star, who has written her first book.
Thurlow was born and raised in Scotland and is a former Miss Edinburgh winner. After attending university in England and leaving with a First, Thurlow worked for four years with the Halo Trust in Explosive Ordnance Disposal: locating, de-arming and removing landmines that put lives and livelihoods at risk in former war zones. Thurlow found the work began to take a toll on her health and took a step back. At which point, she was approached to be a contestant on the reality TV show Love Island.
Towards the end of Love Island, Thurlow finally found her match in Jamie Lewitt and three years later, the couple is still going strong, with a baby on the way! Thurlow has been spending the last few months finishing off her memoir, Not The Type, which takes a look at female empowerment and the people and experiences who have influenced Thurlow in life.
We caught up with Camilla Thurlow to chat about her book, her time at The Halo Trust and how she’s dealt with the anxieties of life and then of celebrity culture.
