About this listen

For the first time - in one Audible-exclusive collection - it's 13 stories of Jane Yellowrock, the shape-shifting skinwalker and vampire hunter for hire whose business card reads, "Have Stakes - Will Travel". Jane carries inside her the soul of her Beast, the mountain lion's soul which merged with hers when she accidently performed black magic as a child. Now, she and her Beast stalk the dark streets of New Orleans, bringing rogue vampires true death.

In Cat o' Nine Tales, you'll discover how Jane turned into a big cat for the first time; how she and Molly became friends; how Rick LaFleur got his tattoos. You'll go along on some of Jane's early vamp hunts. You'll even hear two short tales through Bruiser's eyes.

Once you experience these stories set in the fantastic world of this New York Times best-selling series, you'll surely agree with Kim Harrison that Jane Yellowrock is "smart, sexy and ruthless".

The stories included in Cat o' Nine Tales are:

"WeSa and the Lumber King"
"The Early Years"
"Cat Tats"
"Kits"
"Haints"
"Signatures of the Dead"
"First Sight"
"Blood, Fangs and Going Furry"
"Dance Master"
"Cajun With Fangs"
"Golden Delicious"
"Beneath a Bloody Moon"
"Black Water"

What the critics say

"Khristine Hvam is an outstanding narrator.... Hvam brings warmth and realism to Hunter's unusual characters and adds depth to the ambiance of the New Orleans settings. Her performance is splendid as she carefully creates a multitude of male and female characters, human and otherwise. The entire package flies by quickly, and listeners will want more." ( AudioFile)

Best series I've read/listened to in a long while. Have this series in paper as well. To buy the same book twice in two formats...is a credit to the writer...as well as a credit to the orator that made this series something brilliant, alive, and so very relatable.

Interesting stories about the right length

I had never heard of the Jane Yellowrock series. She is a 6 foot tall Cherokee woman who is also a skinwalker, which means she can change into a giant cougar, but is not a were, like a werewolf or werecat. She hunts vampires and werewolves for a living on what seems to be a contract basis in a world like ours except supernatural beings, as those mentioned above and witches, exist an have laws governing them,

There stories are relatively varied and are about the right length to listen to while working out. They are entertaining an some of the recurring characters develop identifiable personalities. None of the stories are epic, it is an ok distraction.

The time skips wasn’t great

The main character was interesting but I really did not like the pace of the story nor the perspective changes.

The story line combines snip its of Jane and her beast while fighting different fantasy criminals (witches, vampires, werewolves,…) in different settings across the USA. The jump in time between actions or cases is jarring. There is no transition, the listener feels like a chapter or two were skipped by the reader.

The change of perspective was also disturbing. they were separate cases with side characters that did not affect directly Jane story line and it did not bring anything more to her cause/purpose in life.

Not what I expected

Was looking for something light and positive and fun filled adventure, I had to stop listening after 5min of blame blame blame in the first story. I’m sure the other stories were good but this is not what I expected. Sorry Miss Hunter, I was not in the frame of mind to deal with listening to your stories. Perhaps I will at a later date.
