Swords.

Sorcery.

Dick Jokes.

Truly do the gods smile upon you, dear listener, for the first four books in the hilarious Caverns and Creatures series are now available in one audiobook set. Join Tim, Dave, Julian, and Cooper as they are thrown into a hostile fantasy world filled with magic and monsters, and ruled over by a cruel and sadistic game master who taunts and harasses them while he sits back and eats their fried chicken.

Having taken on the bodies of their fantasy characters, Tim and the others are forced to discover the answers to two questions that every underachieving lowlife who's ever rolled a d20 has asked themselves at least once.

What if you and your friends got to live the game for real? What if you and your friends were assholes?

Would you have what it takes to survive? The strength? The wisdom? The...charisma?

Do you have the dice in your sack?

It's like Lord of the Rings meets your mom in a truck stop bathroom, but even cheaper.

This set includes:

  1. Critical Failures
  2. Critical Failures II: Fail Harder
  3. Critical Failures III: A Storm of S-Words
  4. Critical Failures IV: The Phantom Pinas

A Funny Fantasy

I was hesitant at first, not really the type to look for comedy in my books, but this collection of the first four books changed my opinion on that. I look forward to more .

Laugh out loud fun....

Great fun, a nice break from serious sci-fi and fantasy. Well written and read, but if you are easily offended, be warned, there is a lot of crude humor (read as dick and fart jokes).

Great!!

Awesome time listening to the first 4 books. Can't wait for the next bundle 5-whatever. I found myself making a 3d miniature of Cooper in a Saints jersey lol.

depends what you're looking for.

first off, if you're looking for a mildly entertaining story that might be good for a long flight this might be it. I like this one because I need to listen to something to fall asleep to. the story is interesting enough to listen to and not feel bad about falling asleep half way through a chapter.

the performance? I actually think it was done pretty well. there's several voices and the narrators range for them is not the most impressive I've heard but it's up there pretty high on the list. I definitely appreciated some of the extra work done for overlaying the voice track where it fit in and he clearly did some extra work.

if you're looking for what might be refered to as a "page turner", look elsewhere. if you want some light entertainment that you probably won't regret listening to then this works.

lots of crude humor that is actually kind of funny without forcing it. who doesn't like a good poop gag here and there?
I give an average rating for story and an above average for performance but it's based more on range than brining me into the story.

I hope this is helpful and even enjoyable to read. if not, get stomped by an orc.

Best book series

Don’t listen to the snowflakes who say this is bad. This series is amazing. More realistic responses. Anyone who gives this less than 3 stars obviously is a bald goomba with a hot dog neck. Fat and greasy with a volcanic puss face and a macaroni wiener. Cancel these basement grey alien lookin asses for complaining about a magical book series. Spaghetti arm snake neck lookin ass bums. If you love this series I love you. Thank you and let’s stick together against these snowflakes.

Great Story, Hilarious

Love the story, lots of gaming tropes. I like how people who haven't gamed before that get introduced to the story react. I laughed extremely hard at quite a few stages. I like how they showed that spells and abilities can be used in other ways, and even though Mordred is a dick he awarded exp to people for doing things that weren't just combat related (much to Coopers confusion). It's pretty obvious that this is a parody of D&D 3.5 or 3rd Ed which is nice.

*spoilers and suggestions*
I'm not sure why a few things haven't been pointed out in the game though. 90ish percentage of the bad things that happen to the party are Coopers fault, and most of that are stuff he does when his INT stat isn't affecting his actions (since the players already figured out that their INT attribute doesn't affect interpersonal discussions).

No one pointed out that Mordred is a serial killer, which I find baffling. When he was going on to Tim to save him saying "Is this what a Hero would do?", what? kill a serial killer who has them captive and is literally about to kill them? Mordred abducts people, he has a specific repeating MO which he seems addicted to since he starts up again not even a day after getting out of the freezer. Then he tortures them and toys with them which results in some peoples Deaths. He might say that it's not him and it's only the dice, but that's not true. He puts them in scenarios where he is trying to kill them and there is a chance they can live, which would be the same if he pointed a gun at them, they *could* live and defeat him or they might die. He also kidnapped children, whether they wanted to go with him or not, he's not their legal guardian; and he sexually molested them (letting them have sex while he's controlling the NPC's and scenario), and encouraged them to rape , murder(not just npc's, they killed some pc's so that's actual murder), and substance abuse.

The second Mordred was gone all the players that congregated at the Inn should have made a large adventuring organization or Army, had literally everyone take 1 level of Cleric or even Druid to get heals, Druid at least gets an animal companion that can attack. Then go out as a massive group, find monsters to fight, let small groups of them do it (so that he exp isn't divided like crazy or it's not seen as a threat) and have everyone else on standby for emergencies, cycle out injured people or heal them. They could have leveled up significantly. Head to a different country, far away from the horsemen.

People should have also tried to modify their character sheets to see if it was possible. If it didn't work in game, the second Tim and the guys got out of game they should have tried, Mordred did it before and it worked, and also the error Julian made worked too when he had 400 hp.

Gross, funny, weird and absolutely delightful

Took me a while to get into it with the first book, but then I got hooked. There's a lot of farting and other gross bodily functions that were super funny but I'd highly suggest not listening to these while eating.Trust me, you don't want to be imagining a half orc's various aromas with food in your mouth.
The narrator does a great job of voicing all of the characters.
* minor possible spoiler follows* -In the fourth book, there's a whole thread with a new deity that cracked me up big time. When the conclusion to that popped up, I laughed so hard, I had to stop the book, get up, walk around and take deep breaths so I wouldn't pass out.
After I finished this one,I bought more audible credits and finished listening to the rest of the series. Waiting for the 8th book now. This was such a great time and kept me distracted during this pandemic isolation.Thank you, author. You are a brilliant lunatic and I am a little afraid of you.
