Captivating Narrative Style

Jack Olsen weaves an engrossing exploration of a Seattle serial killer who posed his victims' corpses to shocking effect. George Walterfield Russell Jr., a fast-talking, outwardly personable sociopath, serial liar, and B&E Artist/Home Invader & Petty Thief who graduated to rape, murder, and mutilation is a fascinating criminal. Building on that strong story base, Olsen tells the tale through the eyes of one-time friends & lovers and the investigators pursuing the killer. The author presents meticulously-researched detail - but relates it in a refreshing "guy-sitting-on-a-barstool" manner.

I was less impressed with reader Kevin Pierce's performance on this project.
Don't get me wrong.. Pierce delivers typically impeccable diction, timbre, cadence, and voice-acting - but occasionally sounds as though he's reading a book lying open on his lap (something that I have not heard from him before). I wonder why he sounds less interested in this book for some reason. That being said, Pierce still displays an almost psychic understanding of the author's intentions - this recording is better than a text version would be.

Altogether, I rate "Charmer" worthy of 9 stars out of 10. The story-like approach to a True Crime exposé is strikingly effective. Spend the Credit.
