About this listen
Sex is cheap. Coupled sexual activity has become more widely available than ever. Cheap sex has been made possible by two technologies that have little to do with each other - the Pill and high-quality pornography - and its distribution made more efficient by a third technological innovation, online dating.
Together, they drive down the cost of real sex, and in turn slow the development of love, make fidelity more challenging, sexual malleability more common, and have even taken a toll on men's marriageability.
Cheap Sex takes listeners on an extended tour inside the American mating market, and highlights key patterns that characterize young adults' experience today, including the timing of first sex in relationships, overlapping partners, frustrating returns on their relational investments, and a failure to link future goals like marriage with how they navigate their current relationships.
Drawing upon several large nationally-representative surveys, in-person interviews with 100 men and women, and the assertions of scholars ranging from evolutionary psychologists to gender theorists, what emerges is a story about social change, technological breakthroughs, and unintended consequences.

Profoundly insightful
This book is probably one of the best and most insightful on the question of sex that I have had the pleasure of reading. It is deeply sociological, rigorous, well written, and interesting. Anyone interested in how technolgy, from the pill to tinder, has transformed how we understand and live our sexual lives needs to read this book.
The book is made more insightful by Regnerus' even handedness. I do suspect that many people particularly on the political and cultural left will not like what Regnerus has to say. They should read him regardless since relatively conservative sociologists, particularly those with as strong an academic pedigree as Regnerus, are increasingly rare. While you might not agree with him, the strength of his ideas will force you to refine yours.

Interesting book - full of valuable statistics
Very good statistics and picture of today's dating reality. This is so beside the fact that I disagree with root causes of what Mark Regnerus put into ligth (I am far from a fan of sociology to begin with). A lot of what he bring up is clearly relevant. It gives us clarity and very interesting data. Still 3 hours to go, however i am devouring it with great satisfaction.
