About this listen
In this thought-provoking short, #1 New York Times best-selling and award-winning author Jodi Picoult explores a dystopian crisis through the pinhole lens of an ex-couple experiencing an unwanted pregnancy.
Please note: This content is intended for adults only. It features themes of pregnancy loss that may be upsetting to some listeners. Discretion is advised.
Margot and James are broken up—for good this time. James made sure of it when he dropped the bomb on Margot: that he doesn’t want kids, ever.
Then, on the biggest morning of his life, James—an ambitious lawyer at a high-powered firm—wakes up pregnant. He realizes with dread that he is part of a recent epidemic of men suddenly and inexplicably becoming pregnant. His condition obvious to the higher-ups, James is denied the promotion he was expecting, sending him reeling.
Meanwhile, Margot, a social worker, must handle the influx of desperate, pregnant teenage boys suddenly seeking her help. When she receives a call from James with the same problem, the challenge of navigating post-Roe America hits even closer to home.

Only one problem
This story is very understandably the kind of truth that would be needed to have men understand women’s reproductive quandary. The only problem is, even if men read it, they know it is not possible it will not change their minds.

Thought provoking, perfectly written
The timing of this book is perfect. Although if any of us were psychic, a year or two ago would have been best. Picoult's most thought provoking, conversation-starting piece ever. This should be mandatory reading in middle schools and high schools everywhere including law schools. So grateful I live in Canada where my daughter will continue to have a choice about her body. A choice that could very well affect how the rest of her life will be (hard or easy, post-secondary educated or highschool drop out, financially sound or broke, happy or bitter and angry) Hopefully this brilliant short story will prevent any other countries from changing abortion laws. Thank you Jodi Picoult!

A thinker
Seemed silly, the notion that a man could be pregnant but as it continued, I wondered more and more how women were any better prepared than men to face these challenges. Very strange to think of an alternative reality.

someone else's shoes
I loved this! Too bad it's fiction. I would hope this pt of view would influence some ideas about abortion but I am a realist, and sad for the fortune of pregnant women in the US

A real eye-opener touching on a variety of significant issues
This was written for a purpose other than entertainment and so might seem a little too obviously pointed at times. I come from a complicated point of view as a woman who believes in the right to an abortion, while genuinely believing that a child is being killed. I see that choice as a momentous decision not to be entered on lightly. So while I can see what a shocker the physical changes would be in the circumstances, I don’t consider discomforts a huge deal. Picoult goes well beyond that, so keep reading. If those involved in the decision-making process gave the issues presented the attention and consideration deserved, recognizing how different their views would be in changed circumstances Roe would not have been overturned. That willful blindness may not actually lead to male pregnancies, but any true Christian should be asking themselves how they will account to God for their lack of empathy and love.

That would be something!
Short little story about when the unexpected happens. Shoe on the other foot, changes would happen then.
