About this listen
An "enormously entertaining" portrait of "a Bronx Tom Sawyer" (San Francisco Chronicle), City Boy is a sharp and moving novel of boyhood from Pulitzer Prize winner Herman Wouk.
A hilarious and often touching tale of an urban kid's adventures and misadventures on the street, in school, in the countryside, always in pursuit of Lucille, a heartless redhead personifying all the girls who torment and fascinate pubescent lads of 11.

A hidden gem
This story and the performance are outstanding. It takes you back to a time where your friends and neighbourhood were everything. Family relationships were secondary, but especially important in learning life lessons. Herbie is a boyhood friend that you probably had too. Camps were a whole other world to navigate and yet one still arrives home dreaming about the better parts despite the inequities.

Delightful!
A purely delightful story with a moral lesson. The narrator brought it to life with his repertoire of voices and great expression. Herman Wouk is one of my favourite authors.
