Outside the walls is Omeir, a village boy, miles from home, conscripted with his beloved oxen into the invading army. His path and Anna’s will cross.
Five hundred years later, in a library in Idaho, octogenarian Zeno, who learned Greek as a prisoner of war, rehearses five children in a play adaptation of Aethon’s story, preserved against all odds through centuries. Tucked among the library shelves is a bomb, planted by a troubled, idealistic teenager, Seymour. This is another siege. And in a not-so-distant future, on the interstellar ship Argos, Konstance is alone in a vault, copying on scraps of sacking the story of Aethon, told to her by her father. Dystopian…I struggled to get into the story. Then suddenly I couldn’t put it down! A brilliant interplay of times
There is much to say for a brilliant imagination in a story that feels too close to real! Understand that it is dystopian & you will be transported from ancient times to a not unimaginable future. The courageous heroes are children.

Extraordinary and Brilliant
I did not want this book to end and had tears in my eyes when it did. So moving and thought-provoking and magical. A modern-day epic masterpiece. Deep gratitude to my daughter for the recommendation and now I hope to convince my book club to read it. EVERYONE SHOULD. Thank you, Anthony Doerr!

Wonderful!
Narration was great and helped establish the story at the beginning. A beautiful homage to libraries, books and connections that many get in the stories, when you seem unconnected in society. Loved this book ❤️

I can't express how much I enjoyed this book.
Beautiful and haunting. this may be one of my favorite books of all time. Twisting through time and place this novel is a true masterpiece.

A masterpiece
Five stars are reserved for books that move me, make me think, astound me with sentences woven so utterly perfect that I must pause to digest and wonder at the author's seemingly divine skill with words, books that challenge my assumptions of both the everyday and the as yet unknown, or perhaps the already forgotten. This book deserves all of its stars and more. The narration is perfection. The story is captivating, heartbreaking, inspiring, heartwarming, tragic. I loved every word.

A love letter to the Hero's journey
Doerr spins a centuries-spanning tale that is as intimate as it is vast. He uses a collection of hero's journeys to examine the persistence of literature and culture amidst the heaving, splintering forces of time. In this story the written word becomes a mycelial network binding generations together with meaning, and the reader can't help but locate herself in that network. A reflective sentimentality emerges, especially in the last third of the book. It is not tired or cliche, but rather a sincere and raw reflection of the human condition. This is a remarkable work that will undoubtedly leave its own traces through time.

In my heart forever
I usually write my reviews immediately after finishing a book so the details are fresh in my mind. But when I realized that I had neglected to review Cloud Cuckoo Land, I knew I had to remedy that. And as this is a book that will live in my heart forever, it is not difficult. I absolutely loved All the Light We Cannot See and at first, was a little wary that a second book by this author couldn't possible be as good. I was delighted that my concern was ill-founded. The characters are fascinating and empathetic and the way in which the titular story links them all is compelling and inspiring.
