Early in May 1861, 21-year-old Sam R. Watkins of Columbia, Tennessee, joined the First Tennessee Regiment. He fought in all of its major battles, from Shiloh to Nashville. This was an incredible listening experience and Memoir, and opened my eyes to many aspects of the ACW I didn’t know about before:

First hand accounts by privates in this time period are very hard to come by! Sam not only wrote down his memories but also served throughout the entire civil war making this a pretty interesting listen! He writes in a common and easy to understand way, but don’t think for a minute he is writing a history. No sir. He simply offers his memories some 20 of years later for our consumption.
