About this listen
Charming, charismatic, and effortlessly popular, Conrad Stewart seems to have it all...but in reality, he's scrambling to keep his life from tumbling out of control.
Brilliant, guarded, and endlessly driven, Alden Roth may as well be the poster boy for perfection...but even he can't help but feel a little broken inside.
When these mortal enemies are stuck together on a cross-country road trip to the biggest fan convention of their lives, their infamous rivalry takes a backseat as an unexpected connection is forged. Yet each has a reason why they have to win the upcoming Odyssey gaming tournament, and neither is willing to let emotion get in the way - even if it means giving up their one chance at something truly magical.

Story
Cutthroat political consultant Thom Morgan is thriving, working on the governor of California’s presidential campaign. If only he didn’t have to deal with Clay Parker, the infuriatingly smug data analyst who gets under Thom’s skin like it’s his job. In the midst of one of their heated and very public arguments, a journalist snaps a photo, but the image makes it look like they’re kissing. As if that weren’t already worst-nightmare territory, the photo goes viral—and in a bid to secure the liberal vote, the governor asks them to lean into it. Hard.

Sweet story
I enjoyed the story itself so much! It's definitely worth reading. It was a great mix of geeky, sweet, honest, emotional, heartfelt, and fun.
Kirt Graves was a fantastic narrator, and I've already downloaded a couple other books just because he reads them. He was so, so good.
Joel Froomkin, on the other hand, was very nearly enough to make me stop the book a half dozen times or more. Froomkin was so obnoxious that I had to go looking for samples of his other work to see if that's just how he narrates. His other samples were beautiful, with flawless accents and rhythmic pacing. He's won awards for his narrations. Which means this guy made a deliberate choice to portray his gay 23 year old character with a breathy, annoying, pre-pubescent New York Jew meets Pothead Surfer Dude accent that was all whine and no substance. It was actually pretty offensive.
I definitely recommend this book, but you might want to skip the audio and go for the ebook instead.

Love this novel...the audio version not so much
I love this novel! And was very disappointed in the audiobook version.
I always read the Novel/ Ebook before I listen to the audiobook, I tend to listen to the audiobook as a refresher before I read the new book in the series.
I struggled with this audiobook and the choices the narrators decided to do as it was very off putting.....it didn't do the story justice.
I had to listen to the story at 1.30 speed just to get through it and make it a little more bearable.
