Publisher's Summary

Brand-new psychological crime from the author of The Keeper.

When a beautiful, red-haired nurse’s body is found mutilated in her house in Lawley the morning after a date with Detective Constable Ryan Downey, all eyes turn to him.

With a very specific modus operandi, Detective Sergeant Jenna Morgan and her team know exactly who the offender is; the trouble is he’s currently serving a life stretch in HMP Long Lartin.

It soon becomes evident to DS Morgan and her team that there may be a copycat killer on the loose.

In a race against time, they need to track down the copycat and discover who is pulling whose strings.

Found it a little hard to follow , so much back and forth with the timeline ..

Good listen!

This is the second book I’ve listened to in this series and it’s a great listen. I like the story, though the bad guy is a little easy to predict, and it moves along with interesting characters. The narrator is great and if you are not from England, it’s fun to listen to the accent. The story uses British police jargon which is cool. Can’t wait to start the next one :)

Loved this psychological thriller!

I loved this psychological thriller by Diane Saxon, and narrated so wonderfully by Katy Sobey, even if the crimes were creepy! The characters were well-rounded, and as much as I couldn't wait to find out who dunnit, I didn't want it to end. I cannot wait to read another of Katy's novels!

Very good all around

This was a very entertaining story, well done. Characters were well developed and we could tell who was who.

Acceptable.. Especially if Free

I sometimes hate it when I'm right. Diane Saxon writes competently enough - with a sinuous investigation (complete with some nice surprises), great descriptions, and a genuine talent for exploring a psychopath's creepy thoughts - but has a habit of dragging out the story intolerably. It may be realistic for an investigator to think about making a hair appointment during an interview.. but including it in the text of a Suspense Tale is baffling. Irrelevant much?
As I noted in a previous review, Monty Python periodically interrupting a Saxon story with a "GET ON WITH IT!!" cutaway would fit seamlessly.

On the more fortunate side, the reading from Katy Sobey is again excellent.. nearly - but not quite - making this audiobook better than "average". The Sound Engineers at Boldwood Books do a remarkable job softening Sobey's natural sibilance and provide seamless splicing. Sobey's diction, timbre, cadence, voice-acting, and especially tone are furthermore spot-on.
She reads a little bit too slowly, but I could see myself searching out recordings just because Katy Sobey is attached to the project.

Taken altogether, I rate 'Someone's There' a respectable 5.5 stars out of 10. Reading the first book in the 'DS Jenna Morgan' series isn't indispensable, but if you decide to give this book a try, read 'Find Her Alive' first - it establishes some background that makes understanding the characters better.
Bottom Line, however: Audible did well to offer this book as part of the 'Plus' catalogue for subscribers. It has some clever plot elements that make it a reasonable time investment for Mystery-Thriller fans.. but despite outstanding narration, the overall execution is subpar. If they ask for a Credit, you have better options.

Deeply flawed

Truly ridiculous in parts-felt like a Victorian novel, two sisters who live together who can’t discuss their dating life with each other??
The procedural storyline is so stupid in parts- going to take my purse along while confronting a killer/circumstantial evidence has no weight in court? Excuse me ?So much more,I won’t go on but by the time I finished I really disliked the protagonist.
The plot line was repetitive and predictable.
The narration was fine.
Would not recommend.
