Kitty Charing's life-changing inheritance comes with a catch.

A favourite
This is a favourite, well read. I enjoyed the abridged version I listened to some time ago, but what a pleasure to hear the whole text! A witty writer with a sense of humour and great knowledge of the historical period.

Pure regency entertainment
4.5/5 I came to this Heyer romance later than many of her others, but it’s become one of my faves because of the unexpected hero and the way the pairing plot unfolds unexpectedly. (We tend to see a lot more “reformed” rake romances.) Freddy and Kitty make plenty of mistakes, the former being most knowledgeable about fashion and the ton, and the latter being almost completely unexposed to actual society, but they’re both so good-hearted and determined to help people they care about. There’s definitely a comedy of manners, almost farce-like feel to this at times, but the underlying heart keeps tugging me back. The romance is very understated, but at the same time, you can see it happening behind the scenes (mostly without the characters realising, lol). The plot is hilariously convoluted, the side characters entertaining, and the HEAs very well-earned indeed.
