About this listen
Master mythologist Martin Shaw uses story to examine our broken relationship with the world!
Myth is our wild way of telling the truth, of sharing stories that have our living earth speaking through them. There is an old insistence that we each have a twin we know nothing about. A wild, curious twin that was thrown out the window the night we were born, taking much of our energy with them.
This story is a quest to find and court our wild twin, for they have something important to tell us. If there was something we were here to do in our few, brief years, we can be sure that the wild twin is holding the key.
In Courting the Wild Twin, Martin Shaw, an accomplished storyteller and scholar of myth and oral tradition, explores two ancient myths concerned with the wild twin and shares how vital they are to our ability to confront challenges with purpose, courage and creativity.
Myths are our secret weapon. They have a radical agency of beauty in our age of amnesia, an agency far beyond concept and polemic.

Story
Bardskull is the record of three journeys made by Martin Shaw, the celebrated storyteller and interpreter of myth, in the year before he turned 50. It is unlike anything he has written before. This is not a book about myth or narrative: Rather, it is a sequence of incantations, a series of battles. Each of the three journeys sees Shaw walk alone into a Dartmoor forest and wait.

Focusing specifically on the lessons of humility, respect, and courage, the volume contains simple ceremonies that anyone anywhere can do, alone or in a group, to foster harmony and connection. Wagamese believed that there is a shaman in each of us, that we are all teachers, and in the world of the spirit, there is no right way or wrong way.

Absolutely electrifying
Like a spring happened upon in the midst of a long and dusty journey. Words like poetry and ideas that stay long after and plant seeds that could well be life-altering. Excellent reading full of emotional and thoughtful nuances. To be listened to many times.

Good Story
This was a good story and I appreciated what the author was trying to accomplish. The book rambled somewhat, although perhaps that is part of the path to the wild twin. Overall, I found that there were some good messages within this book but it lacked that profound quality of a really good spiritual path book.

Riffing Off Clarissa Pinkola Estés
Painfully rambling and clearly borrowed from Professor Estés’ work, this book is not what it purports to be.
