About this listen

If you have to be stuck in a curse with monsters, they might as well be sexy monsters.

When I answered an ad for a caretaker at Saint Mark’s Sanctuary, I thought I’d be dusting chandeliers and polishing floors. I didn’t expect to be tricked into a curse, going into debt to a monster, and being forced to take a self-paced “let’s learn magic” course so I can fix a 2,000-year-old problem.

And that monster? Not your ordinary, everyday beast. He has hooves, and horns, and fur on his legs. But you know where he doesn’t have fur? Yeah. There. Which is fine. Except he doesn’t wear pants.

Nothing at Saint Mark’s is exactly what it seems. The entire inside is magic, the hallways upstairs are nothing but parties from the past, and the super-hot guy who lives in the dungeon? Yeah. Not human.

My name is Pie, and all I want is to be a normal girl with an average life. I refuse to get stuck in this curse. I refuse to learn magic to break it. And there is no way in hell I will fall in love with a monster. Famous. Last. Words.

AMAZING!!!

If I could give it more stars I would! Wasn’t sure what to expect as this was a new writer to me, but was blown away by the story and now desperately impatient for the next one!

Holy flying fudge muffins

I LOVE all the characters. I LOVE the writing. JA Huss, you did a freaking fantastic job with this book. I cannot wait for the next one!

Regarding the narrators:

I have loved Jason Clarke for a while, and he did an excellent job!

With that said, my GOODNESS, Hathaway Lee is AMAZING. Ms. Lee, if you ever see this review, you are magic. Your various voices are delightful, you are just... *chefs kiss* please, PLEASE keep narrating, and do more than just the two that are currently in Audible.

Boring!

Full disclosure, I only made it about 2/3 of the way through before I gave up. I was still waiting for it to get interesting, but it was just dragging on, still feeling like I was getting through the introductory "setting things up" chapters, with no end in sight. Main male lead is super controlling in actions but with more sympathetic internal thoughts, which the main female lead isn't privy to so her behaviour with him makes zero sense. Also (spoiler), she loses her best friend and then just continues on her merry way without a thought until she occasionally remembers and is super sad for Ike 30 seconds, but then does absolutely nothing about it! She spends more time contemplating the "hotness" of the jerks around her than either trying to get answers about her situation or figuring out what happened to her ONLY FRIEND. *sigh* I would give this a hard pass. Even is you're just looking for something instalove (fail) or steamy (fail) or novel (meh), I wouldn't bother.
