"Henderson's romantic suspense is a satisfying read. She's tweaked the story line just enough to keep the tension taut and the romance springy." (Romantic Times Magazine)

She never disappoints!

Great story. I was filled with worry, moved by suspense and even shed a some tears. A great story, using Gods word to bring the ending home and realise the many blessings God has bestowed on us!

Can’t Turn it Off

I loved the O’Malley series and had to get one more taste of the wonderfully written characters. This pre-quill to the series gives such an amazing background to the first hero of the O’Malley series.

Good story, too much “God” stuff

I found there was a LOT of praying in my opinion. I did like the story and the narrator was good. I would give another star minus the praying.

Absolute rubbish

My first impressions of this book are negative ten stars. Absolute rubbish.

I had no idea I was reading Christian fiction, and frankly, I don’t care, a good book is a good book. I can always skip over any religious propaganda I don’t wish to read. What I don't like are books where the female main character is made out to be this a weak, whiny, submissive, doormat and the men in her life are made out to be these alpha protectors that she can't do anything without.

So this book instantly rubbed me the wrong way. First, how old is she? How long has it been since she was abducted? Does her family not believe in therapy to aid in her getting better and regaining her independence? What nonsense is this that the FBI will take people from actual cases and put them towards one woman just because her father is a diplomat? Her father would have hired bodyguards. The entire scene where a force of agents descend on the young man helping the ex football star is ridiculous and clearly the author has been watching too many tv dramas.

Witness protection is to protect individuals who have either given information or evidence or have agreed to give information or evidence and that evidence implicates someone in a criminal investigation, someone who’s dangerous and someone who can harm them due to their cooperation with the FBI or whatever agency. A simple kidnapping where the perpetrator is unknown and randomly leaves birthday cards would NOT warrant this protection on an indefinite basis. Also, this would be a cold case, not one that even draws in the director of the FBI, how fantastical and farcical. If after how many years their only thought is to surround this girl with agents like she’s the daughter of the president and all she has to do is press a panic button to have them running to her aid, makes them s**t at their job and is laughable.

I will admit, some people do not recover well from trauma, depending on the trauma, but the fact that this woman is successful and she is confident enough to stay in an office building, late at night, when nobody else is around, when she is afraid of the dark and there is a thunderstorm, completely contradicts what someone who is suffering from the immense trauma that she still seems to be suffering from would do. Or someone who is super fearful of a stalker. The whole point of changing routes is so you’re not followed. It makes absolutely no difference if your stalker already knows exactly where you’re going to be and they can just sit and wait.

She is afraid of the dark, but stays at work super late where they are shadows and dark corners? All these can trigger trauma, this makes absolutely no sense from the very beginning of the book. It almost feels like the author just wanted to pull you in and for you to feel sorry for Sara, but instead, I rolled my eyes.

Can we talk about the real elephant in the room here.? I may sound insensitive, but unless I’m missing something and maybe I am seeing as I can barely make it through the first four chapters of this book, but am I right that her brother, her sister and herself were out, the brother got pushed aside and the two girls got snatched up, they got tied up in a basement with one bottle of water and left to die and that was it? Could the author not come up with something a little bit more imaginative? Are you kidding? There are so many kids that get kidnapped and tortured and their trauma is so severe. Kids that on a daily basis their own parents starve them and put them in a dark room or closet each night, unimaginative horrors and this is what the author came up with? Come on! If she was so afraid of the dark even being in her office suite with surrounding darkness would feel like it was closing in on her, and she wouldn’t have even once considered going down in the elevator during a rain storm. Do they not have cell phones? could they not call someone? was there no cell service? I don’t remember any of this happening just that the call button in the elevator was out. Did cell phones not exist? The flashlight app is a thing and how many young women were taught to carry a pen light before phone flashlight existed? Seeing as she’s supposed to be afraid of the dark this would seem like a necessity in her bag.

I can’t push myself any further to go past chapter 4.
