Publisher's Summary

There are worse things than death. Things that lurk in the shadows and slip into your dreams. Things that have no business existing. Things that once slept … but have now awoken.

For Callypso Lillis, the fae magic that now runs through her veins is equal parts curse and good fortune. While it bonds her to Desmond Flynn, her soul mate and the King of Night, it also leaves her newly vulnerable to the Thief of Souls, who wants to break the Otherworld … and Callie along with it.

But it’s not just the Thief whose shadow looms over the fae realms. Des’s father, the previous King of Night, has returned from the dead, and he wants revenge on the son who sent him to the grave in the first place.

Time is running out to track down both enemies and stop their plans from unfolding. Callie and Des race across realms, gathering clues and unraveling secrets, but fate and chaos are catching up to them. If they can’t find a way to stop the forces working to tear them and their kingdom apart, they risk not just their lives but the lives of all fairies … and unfortunately for them, death is no longer the worst outcome.

The love between these two

The way he held himself back from her even though he knew she was his.

The narrator was the only good part

This book is 90% filler. I liked the first two, loved the narrator of the third enough to push through, and now I am mad I wasted hours of my life finishing it when I could have just looked up a spoiler and been done with it. Temper is cheated out of this book and everyone else sucks. They even acknowledge the plot holes and then say, “well they’re dead now so we will never know” and I SCREAMED.

Disappointing, lazy writing after great first few books

I read the first 3 books as they were free and enjoyed the storyline and performance of the orator albeit the more frequent superficial sex episodes that began to feel more like filler. Bought the fourth with the thought to read the series through but, this book was tedious in its lazy language and repeated lazy filler of sex. Nothing of depth of the characters and previous storyline. Feels like a filler book…a typical dark fantasy « harlequin » romance. I still have 5 hrs left and will finish as I paid for this one but won’t continue the series; too bad.
The characters enjoyed lots of « satisfaction », I did not.

It keeps getting worse

Predatory grooming, mind games, sadism bordering on sociopathy and a whiny narrator that makes characters unlikeable. The story is fun but the details are based in systemic racism and toxic masculinity. Desmond is so literally white that even his eyes and hair don’t have melanin. A real missed opportunity to genuinely tackle the issues of dominance and control, sexual assault and slavery. Will not recommend but I paid for it so I have to finish the damn book.

No thank you ….

I really enjoyed the first instalments in this story - I even enjoyed the .5 from Desmond’s perspective - I was so exited to see how this was going to unfold ….. and maybe that’s what makes this paid instalment hurt like a SOB - it’s painful. It’s like this time the author was given a word count quota and didn’t have an idea left in her head about how to meet it. In the credits - it is shared, that the author initially wrote this as a short story in a series of short stories - and it shows. Very very disappointed - caused me to make audible noises of a cringing nature - in the car with no one to hear them. If a listener audibly cringes - and there’s no one else to hear it - does the book still suck?
