About this listen
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • COMING SOON TO APPLE TV+ •
A “mind-blowing” (Entertainment Weekly) speculative thriller about an ordinary man who awakens in a world inexplicably different from the reality he thought he knew—from the author of Upgrade, Recursion, and the Wayward Pines trilogy
“Are you happy with your life?”
Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the kidnapper knocks him unconscious.
Before he awakens to find himself strapped to a gurney, surrounded by strangers in hazmat suits.
Before a man he’s never met smiles down at him and says, “Welcome back, my friend.”
In this world he’s woken up to, Jason’s life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college professor but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable. Something impossible.
Is it this life or the other that’s the dream? And even if the home he remembers is real, how will Jason make it back to the family he loves?
From the bestselling author Blake Crouch, Dark Matter is a mind-bending thriller about choices, paths not taken, and how far we’ll go to claim the lives we dream of.

Good read, ok performer
I enjoyed the story, the twists, the turns.
The narrator seemed to forget which voice he was supposed to use every once in a while, but it wasn’t too huge of a deal.

Action packed!
fast moving and exciting story. Some silly choices are made by the character but it propelled the story well.
The narration was very good but found he over pronounced the H in words like white and where and it drove me bonkers but otherwise great listen!

I was on the edge of my seat the entire time!
Great Story! There are very few books that put me on the edge of my seat. The performance was good, the only thing that upset me was when Jason goes into a Taxi with a Somalian driver, the narrator did an East Indian Accent. Other than that, it was an excellent book, and I recommend this to everyone. I thought after listening to this audio book halfway that this would make an excellent movie adaptation, and I found out that they are making a limited series on Apple TV+. I can’t wait to watch it!

Amazing story, disappointing narrator.
I was really turned off by the first half of this novel, but only because I had listened to Recursion previously. The parallels between the two were a bit too similar at first, and it was hard to look past it. After reassurance from another reader, and after listening in full, I absolutely loved it. I almost enjoyed it more than Recursion.
However, the way the narrator depicted the female characters was disappointing. I understand he was trying to differentiate between genders, but the soft airy voice he used made them sound weak and shallow - like the characters lacked depth and strength. This was almost too frustrating to listen to for this reason personally.

Loved the narration and the story was so complex and compelling! Very much enjoyed even though sci-fi isn’t my normal genre!

Good plot but writer over-sexualizes and makes things flat
It took a long time for the story to get going and it was confusing at first. I forced myself to keep going at times. The overall storyline was good but I love alternate dimension and time travel related stories.
It was very obvious it was written by a straight man and I say that in a negative way because how he writes about the female characters is so flat, over-sexualizes almost every encounter because he probably thinks that’s cool. He either makes the wife sound pure and perfect or like a sex object and not a person. It made me not want to continue. Amanda was ok but he only just skimmed the surface. He needs to understand women better or something because it feels like a huge week point along other things.
