About this listen

The epic conclusion to the internationally best-selling Nevernight Chronicle series from New York Times best-selling author Jay Kristoff.

The greatest games in Godsgrave’s history have ended with the most audacious murders in the history of the Itreyan Republic. Mia Corvere, gladiatii and escaped slave and infamous assassin, is on the run. Pursued by Blades of the Red Church and soldiers of the Luminatii legion, she may never escape the City of Bridges and Bones alive. Her mentor Mercurio is now in the clutches of her enemies. Her own family wishes her dead. And her nemesis, Consul Julius Scaeva, stands but a breath from total dominance over the Republic.

But beneath the city, a dark secret awaits. Together with her lover Ashlinn, brother Jonnen, and a mysterious benefactor returned from beyond the veil of death, she must undertake a perilous journey across the Republic, seeking the final answer to the riddle of her life. Truedark approaches. Night is falling on the Republic for perhaps the final time. Can Mia survive in a world where even daylight must die?

New York Times and internationally best-selling author Jay Kristoff’s writing has been praised by critics and fans alike and has won many awards, including four Aurealis Awards, an ABIA, and David Gemmell Morningstar and Legend awards.

What the critics say

The USA Today best seller!

"Kristoff effortlessly draws together multiple threads from the first two volumes and packs in plenty of wickedly sharp, beautifully choreographed, and gloriously bloody fight scenes while offering humor, heartbreak, and a few jaw-dropping surprises.... A poignant and exhilarating finale to a superb fantasy series." (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

"The stakes for our heroine feel higher than ever.... Fans will love the fast-paced, epic conclusion to this dark and bloody tale." (Kirkus Reviews)

"The twists and turns start early in this volume, and readers expecting wry humor and high body counts will not be disappointed.... Kristoff's characters are fully formed and jump off the page. The world building, borrowing its structure from Italian political history, remains as intricate and fascinating as it was in Nevernight (2016)." (Booklist)

Jay Kristoff had done it again

Excellent series. The story was excellent. Many twists and turns. There is Everything in this series, from fighting champions winning battles be shear will to love and family.
I listened to the Illuminae file series on a road trip a few years ago and I have never really felt satisfied on all the books I have listened to since until now excellent series. Love his writing style and his imagination and the narration was excellent. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Will listen to again over and over.

I can not remember the last time a story made me cry like my heart was dying, but this one did. It is such a bloody story, harsh and wicked, but I loved it so very much. It felt like I was watching a movie and it never held its punches. Well read and beautifully written.

Wow! What a finale!

Damn! Mia is such a complicated character and I gotta say, when she rages out I kinda want to slap her, but then you admire her insane resolve to finish her goals. This was such a good wrap up. I find in 3 book series, there is often unfinished parts of the story, or you get frustrated with the ending, but this was perfect. There are multiple moments in this book where you think the final confrontation is starting, and then it ramps back up again. I'm so glad I started this series. I love how the narrator speaks to the audience, and I really enjoyed the footnotes lol. The side stories always made me laugh out loud, and the monsters are so inventive. I mean Sand Kraken! so awesome!
Maybe it's just me, but I really like how aggressive Mia's swearing is, definitely not a YA novel, and she's not a "gentle woman".

5 stars for the narrator, the first book is a little bit of an adjustment to the voices, but as you go through the 3 books you discover you know exactly who is talking based on the voice and the sounds they make. Amazing job!

I finished it

I hate not finishing so I did. But man sometimes the disconnected story telling just made you go huh. Sometimes it just seemed to go by route, and the sex scenes littered through the book felt like they were written by a 12 year old.
