About this listen

#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER •

A literary tour de force that chronicles a prize-winning author's descent into an almost suicidal depression.

"Compelling ... Harrowing ... a vivid portrait of a debilitating disorder ... It offers the solace of a shared experience."—
The New York Times

A work of great personal courage and a literary tour de force, this bestseller is Styron's true account of his experience of crippling depression. Styron is perhaps the first writer to convey the full terror of depression's psychic landscape, as well as the illuminating path to recovery.

Haunting

William Styron Writes Directly and Intimately but flowing and capaciously. A brilliant and haunting story of his battle and eventual triumph with his depression. A must read.
* Notes : Although read by the author Styron is at times hard to understand and you might at parts have a hard time following along.

depressing.

well if the tone of the narrator doesnt drive you closer towards giving up the lack of content as so far as any lack of solution to depression will. ya hey dont kill your self go to the hospital ya because the medical industry has done such a great job of reducing rates of depression and all other forms of mental illness. I suppose people often get better when they get attention and feel special . most of all they get better because they find a why to life a reason to live, the transcend thier suffering and find meaning in it other wise they just say that's enough and walk in front of a bus. what do I know. honestly the book was so dull I found it hard to stay focused. but then I'm depressed and have a bias
