Publisher's Summary

Beautiful as she is deadly, Liriel Baenre flits throught the shadows of Menzoberranzan, city of the dark elves. Amid treachery and murder that are the drow's daily fare, she feels something calling to her...something beyond this dusky world far removed from the sun. Yet as she ventures toward the surface and the lands of light, enemies pursue her unceasingly.

And one enemy may offer her the only hope of salvation.

Liked the story

I liked the story. The narration was so bad it was actually kind of distracting. I'll get the next book in the series because of the story, but if the narration is that bad again, I'll move on.

Great story, terrible narrator

The narrator mispronounces often, pauses at strange places and narrates like she's giving a 7th grade book report.

great book, but the narrator...

awesome book, but the narrator REALLY needs to learn how to look up unfamiliar vocabulary. it's so stressful to be jolted out of the story because I'm irritated with her constant mispronounced words.

Incredulous and Malefic

The author often repeated adjectives. Everyone’s expression was “incredulous” and every villain’s eyes were malefic. Got to be funny after awhile.

Narration was terrible. Every character was snooty and condescending in tone. Tried way to hard and her male voice of Fyodor induced giggles it was so bad.

Overall story and plot was boring and trite.
