About this listen

Tragedy had reduced James to a nobody.

Washed up and homeless in NYC, he thought his life was over. Then a message appeared in his vision:

As the world falls apart, as billions die, as society collapses, and all hope seems lost, James discovers a powerful truth: he was wrong to think himself a nobody. Summoning every ounce of grit and determination, he'll help forge a resistance that will defy humanity's near-omnipotent enemy by taking the fight from the streets of NYC to the stars themselves.

With the dawn of the Void, he'll become the most important person to have ever lived.

ive always been drawn to apoc urban stuff.

ive listened to a few other similiar series and yet i find they all are different enough to be worth their own listen. Void is no exception. Id come across the title in a reddit threat for some other book suggestion and decided to buy #1 for later listening.

I just finished book 3, the LAST book, a clear trilogy, and am very satisfied. tingles for the last 30 minutes of book 3. the pacing in the entire series is so on point. Never a dull moment. every chapter has importance. Didnt feel like it was ever bogged down in stats and yet stats are displayed many times. its just that there is seemingly more importance to the stats in this?

5/7 would listen again.

Great and novel modern day take on a system apocalypse but with real people not just self inserts

First and foremost, the voice actor narration is excellent. There is enough differentiation between major characters, that it is easy to understand,

This is a unique twist on the system, apocalypse genre . I hope that they continue to have matured nuanced, and interesting characters that are further developed in this trilogy.

Fantastically written characters, voiced to perfection.

Wow is Serenity well written, Jason is as well of course, but the narration absolutely taps into how these characters are written. I don’t know how the narrator pulls of Serenity so well, but absolutely 10 out of 10 capturing her in totality. I don’t have the words to express how well done it is. Jason sounds like a badass, but the nuanced narration is what sells it all. These are real people not unaffected people. If that makes sense. Just added this narrator to the top of my list.

I love the writing and concept. The main character is interesting and has some obvious depth but the author taps into bad-assery just as well. Just finishing up the first one, can’t wait to start the second one.
