About this listen

In this gripping mystery, an FBI Agent’s search for her sister clashes with a military investigator's high-stakes case, leading them both deep into a global conspiracy - from which neither of them will escape unscathed.

For many long years, Atlee Pine was tormented by uncertainty after her twin sister, Mercy, was abducted at the age of six and never seen again. Now, just as Atlee is pressured to end her investigation into Mercy's disappearance, she finally gets her most promising breakthrough yet: the identity of her sister's kidnapper, Ito Vincenzo.

With time running out, Atlee and her assistant Carol Blum race to Vincenzo's last known location in Trenton, New Jersey - and unknowingly stumble straight into John Puller's case, blowing his arrest during a drug ring investigation involving a military installation.

Stunningly, Pine and Puller's joint investigation uncovers a connection between Vincenzo's family and a breathtaking scheme that strikes at the very heart of global democracy. Peeling back the layers of deceit, lies and cover-ups, Atlee finally discovers the truth about what happened to Mercy. And that truth will shock Pine to her very core.

Another great read by David Baldacci

Loved how two main characters in his series come together in this book. Fast paced, heart wrenching, brilliant.

Excellent

As always David does an amazing job at suspense and thriller. It takes you in places that than go sideways...

Need a sequel

We need a sequel to have some closure on the twin. We need to know what happened to her and if she's alive where is she and in what condition?

Heart Pounding Mystery

Attlee Pine is a seasoned investigator. I would describe her as a cat with nine lives. She never gives up in spite of all the lies she was told. She is focused on finding her despite all odds. She overcame all obstacles and was close to finding her sister. I am looking forward to the continuation of the story. Kudos to David Baldacci. He is a master of suspense.

Good story, narration not so good

The female narration did not fit the character in my view. Atley is a badass character. It was hard to rationalize the voice and character.

overstated the obvious often giving the book a tedious feel

this book didn't hold the standard I expect from Baldacci, limited depth of plot and unrealistic solutions to character problems.

Very strong feelings about this book

I was told as a child if you can’t say something nice about it, say nothing at all. I finished reading the book last night and still can’t find one positive thing to say.
Better to spend your time doing something constructive.
