About this listen

This first installment of a cozy mystery series transports listeners back to the bygone era of 1923 Britain, where unflappable flapper and fledgling journalist Daisy Dalrymple daringly embarks on her first writing assignment, and promptly stumbles across a corpse.

No stranger to sprawling country estates, wealthy Daisy Dalrymple is breaking new ground in having scandalously traded silver spoon for pen and camera to cover a story for Town and Country magazine. But her planned interviews with the inhabitants of Wentwater Court give way to interrogation after suave Lord Stephen Astwick meets a dire fate on the tranquil skating pond.

Armed with evidence that his fate was anything but accidental, Daisy joins forces with Scotland Yard to examine an esteemed collection of suspects and to see that the unlikely culprit doesn't slip through their fingers just as the unfortunate Astwick slipped through the ice.

A wonderful start to an engaging series!

I know other readers take over for Bernadette Dunne. I’m hoping when the change comes I’ll enjoy their voices as much as I enjoy hers. She seems perfect for Daisy and also for Fletcher. I fell in love with so many characters in this book. The officers are adorable, and setting was described beautifully. Carola Dunn captures the time, the manners, the privileged and their values. I can’t wait to continue with this series!

Slow start but enjoyed.

The story didn't grab me at first. I even speeded the narration up for a chapter. in the end I am very pleased I stuck with it.

I’m hooked!

Excellent narration. Interesting time period and location. I can’t help but bristle at the social morays of the time period but it is also quite fascinating.
Can be a bit saccharine at times but it is a cozy mystery and it doesn’t take away from the overall enjoyment of the story.
Looking forward to next episode with DD.

The layered mysteries.

The mysteries are wonderful but the misogyny and her passive aggressive denial of her talents gets a little old. It’s cute and not graphic and is narrated very well.

Death At Wentwater

Read by Bernadette Dunne

this is the first book in a series about a " Lady " who becomes a detective . It is very nice and much like an Agatha Christie Novel.
I found it a little on the long side.
often a first book in a series tends to be a bit long winded as the author sets the stage for a series.
I look forward to reading book 2 now I have the plot set for me .
The reader Bernadette Dunne does a good job at setting the scene for us.

Enjoyable Cozy Mystery

I was a bit disappointed in the narrator. Although she did a very good job varying the voices of the characters her underlying American accent and her mispronunciation of several words was a bit irritating.

Disappointing

I had difficulty listening to the end
I liked the central characters but a very poor story and a really annoying narrator who seemed to be trying to do an English accent but kept lapsing - would have been better not to try as her voice was pleasant
