Publisher's Summary

When Athena disappeared from St. Polycarp's College at Oxford, her friends assumed she had run away - to hide from her overbearing, wealthy Greek family, or even to marry some unacceptable young man. To their shock, they find out at their 10-year reunion that her body has been discovered in an excavation. Private investigator Regan Reilly, Athena's former college roommate, is determined to track down her friend's killer. Despite a 10-year-old trail, she uncovers a host of eccentric and uncooperative suspects. A down-to-earth, likable heroine, a wonderful cast of eclectic characters, and a suspense-laden plot add up to an impressive first novel for Carol Higgins Clark.

Great story

I was first drawn to the Reagan character in one of Carol's short stories and loved it.
I've now sought it out and found an entire library of this series and I just finished this as my first.
I've read previous reviews and people have been really hard on Mary Higgins Clark for her narration I loved it I didn't mind it at all her inspector character probably didn't mean to be so whispery raspy but otherwise very well done by all.
Off to book two

WHY is the police detective’s voice so odd?!?

Overall, this book isn’t bad. Decent story, definitely not easily-guessable villain, and fairly good characters. The narration, however, is VERY hard to listen to! The Oxford police detective sounds like he just had throat surgery; his voice is inexplicably whispery and gravelly at the same time; it’s seriously annoying. Other males in the book are voiced normally; no idea why the police officer isn’t.
