The world is nothing like Mya remembers. While in Ernisi, cities have been bombed and burned in an attempt to stop the hellhounds and the plague. The survivors are doing everything they can to win back their world from the hell that was unleashed with the first quake.

With Drav's help, Mya reunites with her family, but they are far from safe. Marauders, hellhounds, and the infected are doing their best to destroy what's left of the world, and it's up to Mya and Drav to save it.

Contains mature themes.

Mya is demonstrating a severe lack of sense. I saw the "damsel in distress" trope kick into gear in book 2, and hoped it wouldn't become an ongoing theme. Unfortunately, despite her ill-thought past behaviors, she doesn't appear to be learning from them. I found many of her choices dumb and selfish in this book. It's becoming difficult to see what Drav sees in her, apart from her being the first female he's ever seen. He's constantly having to save her. Her wants and needs seem to be everyone's priority, and that doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I'll put this series on pause for now.

Mya is grating on my nerves!
