About this listen
"Sutanto brilliantly infuses comedy and culture into the unpredictable rom-com/murder mystery mashup as Meddy navigates familial duty, possible arrest and a groomzilla. I laughed out loud and you will too.” (USA Today, four-star review)
“A hilarious, heartfelt romp of a novel about — what else? — accidental murder and the bond of family. This book had me laughing aloud within its first five pages… Utterly clever, deeply funny, and altogether charming, this book is sure to be one of the best of the year!” (Emily Henry, New York Times best-selling author of Beach Read)
One of NPR's Best Books of 2021!
One of PopSugar’s "42 Books Everyone Will Be Talking About in 2021"!
What happens when you mix one (accidental) murder with two thousand wedding guests, and then toss in a possible curse on three generations of an immigrant Chinese-Indonesian family?
You get four meddling Asian aunties coming to the rescue!
When Meddelin Chan ends up accidentally killing her blind date, her meddlesome mother calls for her even more meddlesome aunties to help get rid of the body. Unfortunately, a dead body proves to be a lot more challenging to dispose of than one might anticipate, especially when it is inadvertently shipped in a cake cooler to the over-the-top billionaire wedding Meddy, her Ma, and aunties are working at an island resort on the California coastline. It's the biggest job yet for the family wedding business — "Don't leave your big day to chance, leave it to the Chans!" — and nothing, not even an unsavory corpse, will get in the way of her auntie's perfect buttercream flowers.
But things go from inconvenient to downright torturous when Meddy's great college love — and biggest heartbreak — makes a surprise appearance amid the wedding chaos. Is it possible to escape murder charges, charm her ex back into her life, and pull off a stunning wedding all in one weekend?

Story
The Earl of Wrexford possesses a brilliant scientific mind, but boredom and pride lead him to reckless behavior. He does not suffer fools gladly. So when pompous, pious Reverend Josiah Holworthy publicly condemns him for debauchery, Wrexford unsheathes his rapier-sharp wit and strikes back. As their war of words escalates, London's most popular satirical cartoonist, A. J. Quill, skewers them both.

What the critics say
“Jesse Q. Sutanto’s Dial A for Aunties is a hilarious, heartfelt romp of a novel about - what else? - accidental murder and the bond of family. This book had me laughing aloud within its first five pages, and kept me bouncing between anxiety and delight until its very last. Utterly clever, deeply funny, and altogether charming, this book is sure to be one of the best of the year!” (Emily Henry, New York Times best-selling author of Beach Read)
“Comparisons to Crazy Rich Asians are apt, as the author details the wild spending and luxurious lifestyles of the superrich. But this story is filled with mistaken identity, a gaggle of intoxicated groomsmen, five lovably hilarious sisters, and slapstick humor that leans more toward the film Clue. Readers will die for the delightfully absurd hijinks in this dark comedy.” (Kirkus Reviews)
"Dial A for Aunties has redefined what 'page-turner' means to me.... If you're in the mood for laugh-out-loud humor, unprecedented mayhem (involving meddlesome family members and over-the-top drama), and delightful twists and turns at every corner, I highly recommend Dial A for Aunties." (Buzzfeed)

Very Witty, A Nice Read!
I loved this book and the narrator really brought it to life. Only didn't give 5 stars because they don't have 4.5 ratings lol. I felt the story was very funny and enjoyable and a nice light read/ listen.

Give it a B+
This is shopaholic meets Crazy Rich Asians
Funny lol moments. Though really over the top and outlandish. The pace was good but as for audio books it was a bit to long (I usually love long)

Accidental murder, crazy rich Asians and humour
An unrealistic but humorous storyline. There are some themes I can relate to in terms of being a second generation Asian growing up in North America (this story is involves 3 generations of immigrant Chinese-Indonesians), one of them being loss of first generation’s native language(s). I enjoyed how the aunts came to Meddelin Chan’s rescue once she admitted to accidentally killing her date. There is a lot of humour in the way the the women in her family interact, that are so typical of Asian families.
There is a cute love story that Meddy shares with us and how she chose what she felt were her familial obligations, rather than pursuing a life with the love of her life.
The first half for me did not move as quickly as it did for the second half. I love the crazy rich Asian style wedding that Meddy, her mom and aunts have to work at. The plot got really interesting for me towards the end. One of the love stories was not so realistic, but I do not want to give too much away here.
I am excited for the upcoming screening adaptation on Netflix.

Story’s cute. Didn’t love the narrator.
I listened to this after Vera Wong’s unsolicited advice for murders. It’s not as good as Vera Wong, but it’s cute. I found the reader to be somewhat grating. I think the humor would have been funnier if read by someone else.

A bit boring
Had high hopes for this one, but it just didn't work for me. It is most definitely unrealistic but you've got to suspend belief for the majority of the plot. I liked Meddie's character the most, but found the romance a bit tried and overly perfectionistic. Found myself losing interest about 1/3 I'd the way through when it started getting repetitive.
