Publisher's Summary

From their beginnings as teenagers experimenting in a San Fernando Valley garage dubbed "The Hell Hole" to headlining major music festivals around the world, discover the whole story of Bad Religion's 40-year career in irreverent style.

Do What You Want's principal storytellers are the four voices that define Bad Religion: Greg Graffin, a Wisconsin kid who sang in the choir and became an LA punk rock icon while he was still a teenager; Brett Gurewitz, a high school dropout who founded the independent punk label Epitaph Records and went on to become a record mogul; Jay Bentley, a surfer and skater who gained recognition as much for his bass skills as for his antics on and off the stage; and Brian Baker, a founding member of Minor Threat who joined the band in 1994 and brings a fresh perspective as an intimate outsider.

With a unique blend of melodic hardcore and thought-provoking lyrics, Bad Religion paved the way for the punk rock explosion of the 1990s, opening the door for bands like NOFX, The Offspring, Rancid, Green Day, and Blink-182 to reach wider audiences. They showed the world what punk could be, and they continue to spread their message one song, one show, one tour at a time.

Best book on religion I've read/listened to

Only took a star off because I prefer authors to read their stories. Apart from that, great book by a great band!

Worth every second!

This title was so well written and super informative. As a long time casual fan there was so much that learned over the course of this audio book. Totally recommended it to a friend already and will continue to.

A Must for Bad Religion fans..

A deep dive that covers the bands history. The whole story covering lineup changes and albums in a chronological order. You will go back and listen to records with an entirely new appreciation. Amazing level of detail that will give you a whole new appreciation for these punk rock legends.

Awesome book!

Really inspiring, quite surprising. I always loved listening to Bad Religion... But I really did not think they had such an interesting story.

Arrogance

This is one of the most arrogant biographies I’ve ever read. I’ve never seen a band with such an inflated sense of self importance. They tell us how they’re more important than Nirvana. How they’re the punk rock Beatles. How they saved a guitar player from the Cult. Throw in some stolen Tony Wilson quotes and you have this piece of hyperbolic garbage. I might have liked this when I was 13. As an adult you should avoid this.
