About this listen

Richard Royal has a hard life.

He lives in a corrupt, church-controlled dystopia, his family is soon broken, and the only joy to be had comes from the escapism of his full-immersion gaming.

Introduced to a new and very illegal game, he finds himself in the body of a dragon, on a quest to find a dark and evil power to serve. But the game is more than it seems, and the dragon is more than a beast. Soon Rich's life is far, far more complicated than he ever expected. And the threats against him grow, both in-game and in realspace.

There is no path that will not lead to blasphemy. And the dark secrets revealed will change two worlds, before all is done....

A new litrpg saga, set in Threadbare's world of Generica Online.

Ideal For Online-gaming Über-geeks

Andrew Seiple fashions a very original scenario that is endlessly fascinating. He writes sufficiently well and handles encounters nicely, but unfortunately also fills this book with so much internet slang (I had to look up "flurge") and actual coding (I'm not kidding) that you can easily picture some GenZer with VR Goggles and a nerd-helmet writing the story. The hero is literally a bullied fat kid kicked out of school and living in a basement who gets to be a super-powerful dragon.

Fortuitously for audiobook consumers, Podium Audio hired Nick Podehl to read the book. His understanding of the author's intentions is uncanny in terms of tone and emotiveness. True, a few character voices are annoyingly cartoonish, but this is one of the most cinematic performances that I have heard in a while.

If you can get past the stupid word-for-word transcripts of Internet Chat Boxes, it's a passable book ("*Rutger*: Shit, Shit, Shit! Noooo!! *Vagdestroyer*: Noob!! *GamerGurl*: Make Generica Online Great Again! Quit, Loser! *Aristadler*: We went over this before. You're dead. *Uri*: I have a deal on Gold tokens, so you don't have to wait 24 hours to respawn - follow the link" etc). 'Dragon Hack' merits 5.5/10-stars. If you're a Game Designer or a Gaming Addict this should make it into your library. Otherwise, it's worth downloading if you can get it as a 'Plus' option.. but spend your Credit elsewhere when they ask for one.
