About this listen
A new hero emerges in a divided world as one of sci-fi’s most beloved series - Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern - relaunches with this original adventure from Anne’s daughter, Gigi McCaffrey.
In honor of the fiftieth anniversary of the Dragonriders of Pern series, Gigi does her mother proud, adding to the family tradition of spinning unputdownable tales that recount the adventures of the brave inhabitants of a distant planet who battle the pitiless adversary known as Thread.
The last time Thread attacked Pern, the world was unprepared for the fight - until the Oldtimers appeared. These courageous dragonriders arrived from the past, traveling four hundred years to help their descendants survive. But the collision of past and present took its toll. While most of the displaced rescuers adapted to their new reality, others could not abide the jarring change and found themselves in soul-crushing exile, where unhappiness and resentment seethed.
Piemur, a journeyman harper, also feels displaced, cast adrift by the loss of his spectacular boyhood voice and uncertain of his future. But when the Masterharper of Pern sees promise in the young man and sends him undercover among the exiled Oldtimers, Piemur senses the looming catastrophe that threatens the balance of power between the Weyrs and Holds of Pern.
When the unthinkable happens, Piemur must rise to the challenge to avert disaster and restore honor to the dragons and dragonriders of Pern. Because now, in a world already beset by Thread, another, more insidious danger looms: For the first time in living memory, dragons may be on the verge of fighting dragons.

Pern stories never miss
Anne McCaffrey has left her legacy in good hands with Todd and now her daughter Gigi. I felt I was back in the wonderful world and really enjoyed the story and the narrator did a great job.

More like Anne’s Style
Though I am left wanting even more, I did enjoy this vignette into Pimur’s life. A coming of age story that made me smile and cry (darn you! ;) ) I hope GiGi finds it in her heart to write more. I so miss Pern. I wonder if they would ever reconnect with earth and what that would mean for their idyllic world <3

So glad we listened to this!
Have read the original series many times since the 80’s. Passed on this when it came out as I didn’t like the Todd/Anne books. Revisiting the series this time we decided to give it a try and it’s just wonderful. So happy to have more of Piemur’s story. Made us laugh and cry!

Loved this short story taking me back to Pern.
If you loved Anne McCaffrey's books of Dragons, Dragon Riders and Pern, her daughter, Gigi does not disappoint in this book. I enjoyed the descriptions, the characters and the dragons. The narrator does an excellent job. I now need to go back and re-read the other Dragon books.

fantastic!
I loved this story! I am so glad the series of pern is continuing, I feel as though Anne would be proud of this story. Gigi has begun to grasp the emotional and psychological depth of Anne's characters. The relationships, economics and political subtleties that made me love the series in the first place are in this story. I really really hope she continues the stories.

Great! A new perm and Dragon-rider story.
I read the Pern books every year or so. It’s great to see a new one. It is well written. But a bit wordy. The narration is good. But for me it could be better. The story fits well into the world of Pern.

mediocre
mediocre story at best. I have been reading Pern since my sister give me the very first book over 30 years ago. I can honestly say I was looking forward to revisit familiar characters once again. Unfortunately, they do not act, or even speak, in the same way I remember. I hated the little nicknames for Piemur and Menolly. The performer was a distraction and made listening to the entire story painful. I have read the entire Pern series many times and have enjoyed some stories more than others. This is one story I will not revisit.

can't get into this
I've read all the Pern books in my youth, but find myself unable to finish this book now.
